Is Demon Slayer OK for 12 year olds?

r/

Context:

So, my Cousin wants me to take care of her 12 year old daughter (let’s call her Gwen) while she’s on a 1 week business trip to Washington state, this simply because of geographical convenience, since she lives pretty close to Quebec City (where I’m living) and this isn’t the first time I did this for her, and to Gwen I’m the (somewhat) cool ex-stoner 21 year old dude who owns a Chevrolet Impala lowrider. Now, Gwen is really into Anime and wants to watch Demon Slayer, Beastars, and Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Me not knowing crap about anime, came here for advice. And Incase some of the animes are R rated, how do I tell Gwen that we can’t watch those so she doesn’t watch it behind my back on her phone or something.

It’s totally fine. I have a 13 year old and she’s been watching and reading it for a few years.

DemonSlayer: the protagonist is young. The demons are bad and kill people, but the demon-sister of the protagonist is a comedy relief. There are fights, demons are decapitated, but the atmosphere is heroic. Low fanservice, women are relatively respected. A lot of action. Violence as heroic. I would say … yes if she like. Demons are bad, heroes are good. Simple. There is violence and some heroes could die in the end but it is simple.

Beastars: Furry, sex, cannibalism, violence, blood, mafia, violent behaviour, sexual attraction mixed with hunger, social complexity, racism, adult problems, guns, prostitution. ABSOLUTELY NOT for a 12 years old. The theme as sexuality and racism are really complex. The protagonist is a really good person with a lot of internal struggle. But the anime is complex. Only for more adult people.

Cyberpunk: maybe not. Violence, addiction, depression, lying, society where everyone is sad. It touches mature themes, which requires a bit of maturity to appreciate. The emotion here is sadness. Cool and interesting however.

I would say its OK for most 12 year old’s. I was a lot younger than that when I began watching Nightmare on Elm St and Friday the 13th movies. Though considering how I turned out, you may want to take that with a grain of salt.
