Is it common to use disposable plates at home?

I saw a YouTube video of an American saying that it is common in the USA to use disposable plates, and cutlery etc at home on a regular basis.

I remember seeing the Duggars doing it, but I gave them a pass and thought it was a one off, because of their large family.

But lately I have been seeing cooking videos of home cooks plating the food on a paper plate.

I read a blog about an American family with 7 kids. The mom said she bought plastic plates for her kids, and would use them in the future, instead of disposables.

I am not from the USA, and so I’m wondering if this is actually a thing that’s done regularly, or if it’s done a normal amount of times which include picnics, and large gatherings of people.
