For context, at my job, we all signed an employee contract that mentions discussing wages between each other is grounds for immediate termination.
There have been people who gotten in trouble for discussing wages but have never actually been fired.
Even with this contract in existence, is this not illegal?
Comments
if its in contract then still illegal but then firing someone over that proves how shady that job is
Under the National Labor Relations Act, employers may not prohibit employees from discussing wages or retaliate against them for doing so.
There are a number of exceptions, including state/municipal governments, airlines, and certain religious organizations.

Technically…. Their official reason for terminating will be violating the employee contract. And I believe Iowa is an at will state, so they could fire you without giving a reason or proof.
What I personally would do, is get a copy of that employee contract and make an inquiry or complaint with the NLRB.
You CANNOT enforce a contract that has illegal elements in it. Get a contract with someone that you can kill them and eat their body and see how far your “BuT THey SIngEd tHE ContrACT!” will get you in court and enjoy your prison/death sentence. It is ILLEGAL to prevent wage discussions:

Thank you for putting your illegal and unethical intentions on a post on the internet where it will live forever for discovery and hope if you follow through on it, it will be a lovely exhibit in court!
