Is it “me and my wife’s anniversary” or “mine and my wife’s anniversary”?

r/

My husband is sending an email to a future employer, and we are stuck on this.
I say it’s “mine and my wife’s anniversary”
He says it “it my wife’s and I anniversary”
What correct and/or sounds better?

    It’s our anniversary

Your husband. Substitute your name and she how it’s sounds. It’s Jane’s and my anniversary or it’s mine and Jane’s anniversary. Not an English teacher. You say the other person first

Its my and my wife’s anniversary.

“It’s my wedding anniversary” – that it is also your spouse’s wedding anniversary is implied by the word ‘wedding’.

I would go with “my wedding anniversary”, as opposed to “our anniversary” because anniversary can mean a lot of things if you werent discussing your marriage life or wedding beforehand.

Our wedding anniversary can be confusing as well, if you werent talking about your wife in the marital context prior to the mention.

So yeah, context is pretty difficult, so “my wedding anniversary” is about as concise and to the point you can be.

It’s not “my wife’s and I”, because you wouldn’t say it’s I’s anniversary on its own. What feels right to me is “my wife’s and my”, but maybe it would be better to reword it completely? Because all the options feel clunky to me.

Depending on what he’s trying to say, it might be easier to just say “my wedding anniversary” because it already implies that you (the wife) is part of that equation. Maybe that’s why including both of you feels off, because it’s redundant.

My wife’s and I anniversary is correct grammar.

It’s my or our wedding anniversary. A wedding anniversary implies two people.

“Our wedding anniversary” sounds the best but you can also say “my wife’s and my wedding anniversary”, it is typically polite to put the other person first and then speak of yourself.

    my and my wife’s*

I agree with others to just say “my” or “our.”

However – for future scenarios, neither of you are correct. You take whatever you’d say if it were just you, and add the other person before you.

So, you wouldn’t say “it’s mine anniversary” and you also wouldn’t say “it’s I’s anniversary.” You’d say “it’s my anniversary,” so add your wife in and the correct way of saying it is “It’s my wife’s and my anniversary.” Sounds clunky but it is correct.

It’s called compound possessive if you’d like to learn more 🙂

You should properly state that it’s your wife’s wedding anniversary and that you are still working through the stages of incarceration.

The rule is that you take out the other person and it should say the same. So “It’s my Anniversary” becomes “It’s my wife’s and my anniversary”.

Oh yeah the other rule is that you always put the other person first.

But as others have said: “It’s my wedding anniversary” covers it.

Self reference always goes last and you use the same pronoun for yourself that you would if the list of people were just you.

So it would be, “my wife and my anniversary.” It would never be, “it’s my wife and I anniversary” because you would never say “it’s I anniversary.”

    There’s a few ways of going about it I believe;
    “My and my wife’s anniversary.”
“My wife’s and my anniversary.” (Which is more polite imo to put another before the speaker)

The key trick to it is break the nouns in question apart and say each part in the full sentence out loud. So:
“It’s my wife’s anniversary.” Is correct and sounds right.
    “It’s mine wedding.” is not.
“It’s I anniversary.” Is also not correct. Albeit REALLY funny.
“It’s I’s anniversary.” Same sentiment as the previous one.
“It’s my anniversary.” Is correct, and sounds right.

So when you find the ones that actually are speaking in a singular possessive tone; you can then join them together as exampled at the way top of this message. Hope this helps with this specific question and any further sentences like this!

My husband and I’sis how I say it, but that can’t be proper English I don’t think… don’t think I’s is correct… but I use it anyways. A lot actually, when I think about it.

I would say, “it’s my wife’s and my anniversary.” The trick is to take out the other person in the sentence and see if it sounds right:

    “It’s my wife’s anniversary”

    “It’s my anniversary”
