I just got laid off from a position I’d held for over 2.5 years. The pay wasn’t amazing, but the schedule and work-from-home flexibility were perfect for my family. Lately, I was mostly doing small tasks and coasting because there wasn’t much else to do, even though I asked for more work.
I’m 37, my wife is 6 months pregnant, and we have a 3.5-year-old. I feel completely lost and guilty for even feeling this way. Is it okay to be this upset?
Is it normal to feel upset after losing a “dead-end but comfortable” job

Bruh, don’t beat ya’self up. We often get comfy in familiarity, and it stings when that’s taken away, job or not. You had rhythm, it got upset, u gotta grieve that loss man. Just remember, maybe this could be the push u need for something bigger and better. Unless u believed ‘perfect’ was this job, it wasn’t the endgame, right? You got this, homie. Good luck!
it’s completely normal. Even a “dead-end” job provides comfort and routine, and losing that especially with a family can feel like a real loss. Feeling upset doesn’t make you wrong; it just shows you care. This could also be a chance to find something more fulfilling or flexible for your family.
Absolutely, that makes sense. Losing that stability can really shake you, and it’s okay to grieve it. At the same time, thinking about new opportunities that might fit you and your family better is a hopeful way to move forward.
yes absolutely!

This is kind of clear indication that your job was at risk. No one wants to pay if there isn’t enough work to be done. It’s not your fault, just that whatever industry you were in was declining.
But since you’ve got family to support, you need to snap out of being upset and be proactive to get a new job.
100% okay.
