So i grew up with dogs, never had cats. Honestly thought I didn’t like them because of the stereotypical opinion about cats not liking anyone (and i was allergic. Itchy eyes, sneezing) Then my wife (at the time girlfriend) moved in with her cat and I was proven completely wrong. Loved that little guy (and somehow desensitized my allergies). After he passed we got 2 more cats. I love them so much, one is clearly bonded to me.
We’ve always lived in an apartment and the ones we have been in only allow cats. Never really cared or thought about it. So our situation is changing and we will be moving into a condo which allows any pets.
Now, when I see videos online of dogs, I want one. I always wanted one. But I worry that it will negatively affect our cats. I don’t want them to hide in a room because their safe space has been invaded….. I feel like I’m already talking myself out of it and answering my own question.
What do I do?
Animals have emotions, I don’t want them to feel abandoned.
I probably won’t respond to anyone right away because I’m going to bed in a minute.

> I don’t want them to hide in a room because their safe space has been invaded
Most cats would tear a dog up for breakfast.
A lot of cats are fine with dogs. You just have to introduce them slowly.
I have 4 cats. 3 of them are 22+ years old, the youngestcwas a stray and he is now 6 years old
7 years ago i took 2 small doggs in the house.
At start the had some small fights, but not anymore.
They even sleep together
I got a dog when my two cats were 9 and 7. They were with us as kittens and treated like our first born. He was a puppy and we just made sure he didn’t hurt them. Our female cat punked the pup immediately. She didn’t scratch him but she was definitely establishing dominance. They got along great. Now our cats are 14 and 12. We got another dog to add to our mix. He wasn’t a puppy but young. My female cat did the same thing and neither are bothered by the dog. We did the same when we had our own children (we have 3 kids) we made sure our fur children/pets were respected and treated appropriately. As long as you do that your cats will be fine. I would suggest making sure your cats have a safe space and the dog has its own space too.
Depends on dog breed and personality
Some dog breeds are great with cats. Unfortunately my cats hate dogs snd my rabbits are terrified of them so I can’t have a dog. I fostered a dog for a couple months and it was a nightmare as I had to cage her most of the time. Found her a forever home and she has a cat companion now that they sleep together.
