Title. Would you still have to do academy? Is there any room in the departments for people with physical limitations/disabilities?
Is it possible to get an office job as your first job?

There are a million places in law enforcement that don’t require the academy or are good for folks with disabilities.
Dispatch, records clerks, analysts, forensic scientists, admin aides, etc. are all important support positions that you could do.
Absolutely many departments have non-sworn civilian positions. Here in California we have positions such as community service, officers, dispatchers, animal services, records. My local sheriffs department has positions that are non-worn and allow people to work various assignment within the sheriffs department.
Are you talking about an office job as a police officer, or a civilian working at a police department?
If you’re talking about the former, then no, it’s not likely. New hires typically work “the needs of the department.” If they want you working midnights Thu-Mon, then that’s what you get. As you build seniority and experience, normally you have an opportunity to bid for better shifts, and, eventually, desk work.
If you’re talking about the latter, there are a LOT of different positions within a department that may be filled with civilian employees, including dispatch, accident report management, citation management, etc.
There are nonsworn positions in law enforcement and corrections that wouldn’t require an academy.
Not if you want to be a cop
Well if you take the route of like 70% of females at my department. Get knocked up just as you’re about to get out of the academy. Announce it after only working 1 week on the street. Then be sent to desk duty.
Then you just keep getting pregnant over and over. Then finally when you’re eligible for promotion test take it. Then you’ll be able to be a supervisor and boss people around without ever having any real street experience.
