Is it true that reality TV shows mostly cater to women?

r/

My friends and I were drinking yesterday, and one of them began talking about how his sister and mother are addicted to these tr@sh reality TV shows. He started making fun of his sister because she’s constantly tweeting and posting about these shows on social media and how these st*pid shows cater only to the female audience. I admit I’ve never watched or paid attention to these shows, and my friends said the same, so I’m just asking this here out of curiosity.

Most reality TV shows do cater to a female audience, more specifically women usually 25+, most often either housewives (like many bravo network shows) or single women (like Big Brother for example). There are of course reality shows for other audiences. Pawn Shop and Duck Dynasty is for mostly men, Kid Nation was for kids. But yeah stuff like Jersey Shore, Real Housewives of Insert Location Here, Love Island, Survivor, etc. are made with adult women in mind. Some more or less than others, I’d say Survivor is a bit more in the middle but does lean towards women.

    Depends on your definition.

Family reality shows often cater to women and job based reality shows tend to cater to men.
