Is it weird to think about how I’d want to be better as a MIL?

r/

FTM to a 3mo son and have been getting frustrated with my MIL. I don’t think I’d call her a just no (my late mom really would have been though) but she’s had quite a few “moments” where I’ve felt not listened to or anxious or uncomfortable or bordering on offended.

I wrote a few notes on my phone about how I’d want to treat a future DIL esp postpartum, basically how could I be better as a MIL.

Idk if I’ll actually do it but I was considering putting some bullet points in a letter in case my son ever does start a family as an adult way in the future, just so I could remember what the new mom phase is actually like and what I would have wanted from my MIL. Possibly a bit mental? I just pictured my future self reading it and hopefully getting some perspective and remembering things to avoid.

Maybe it’s just cathartic 😂 I don’t really feel like I can complain about her that openly because there’s just lots of minor irritations

Not weird. I remember the boundaries I set with extended family, and take notes about “what not to do” every day on this sub.

Not weird. It shows you are a caring human. I joke with my daughter-in-law and son-in-law that I read this subreddit so I don’t end up here as a post! 🤣

Not at all. I’m here, not because I have a JN but because I want to make sure I don’t accidentally become one.
