Is taste the only advantage that fresh fruit has over frozen fruit?

r/

I’ve been trying to save money on my groceries, and I’ve noticed that frozen fruits (berries, in my case) are much cheaper than fresh ones.

Apparently, they also have the same nutritional values. So my question is: is there any reason to prefer fresh fruits, other than taste?

I would say the strongest difference would be in texture.

Yes, the only advantage of fresh fruit is their natural texture and flavour

I think freezing fruit, at least with bananas, creates resistant starch, which is a good thing, because they are not digestible, and so the glycemic index is reduced.

But it’s possible that some positives also get lost but I don’t know about that.

Or that the blueberries won’t break your teeth lol

Not really, unless you’re picky about texture. Frozen fruit is just as nutritious, often picked at peak ripeness, and lasts way longer. The only downside is maybe a slight texture change when thawed, but if you’re using them in smoothies, oatmeal, or yogurt, it doesn’t even matter.

    Texture as well.

Frozen fruit aside from texture, has immense flavor.

Fresh fruit tends to be easier and quieter to chew.

Mostly texture tbh. Frozen and then defrosted fruit goes a bit mushy. It’s not a problem if you’re using it in something, like a smoothie or pie, or a cake, but for just snacking on, it makes it a different sensory experience.

Also texture. Fresh strawberries are easier to cut rather than prefrozen. If you’re baking or making smoothies, you can use the frozen since the fruit will be mashed up anyway.
