Is there a way to not feel weird about shaving?

r/

I’m 16 and the last time I shaved my face was around 3 months ago and I haven’t since so now I have this bad beard I hate but whenever I think about grabbing the electric shaver I just feel weird about it? Idk but any advice would be very helpful since I’m desperate rn

If the electric razor is truly that unpleasant on your skin, just use it to chop off most of the bulk then finish with a traditional razor.

My advice is to shave your face if you want.

Try shaving in the shower. Do it after all your other washing so your whiskers are soft. If you put shaving cream on your mirror and rinse it off your mirror won’t fog up. I always do the mirror after I lather my face. Here’s a shatterproof mirror on Amazon.

Get some disposable double blades and shave every few of days or as often as you like. It won’t take you but a few minutes.

What is the reason for this weird feeling?

I hate electric razors, I feel they take forever and leave me with an itchy face. I have an expensive electric razor that sits in my cupboard.

I have a henson ‘precision engineered’ aluminium razor, which was supposed to be miraculous, but I rarely use because it doesn’t get the job done quickly either.

Then I have my multi-blade gilette, which is super easy to use, but sometimes gives me razor burn.

I’ve been shaving for a long time and still hate it. I avoid it when possible, but look terrible if I leave it too long.

If you can’t face doing it yourself you might consider getting a shave from a barber shop. But that may be expensive.

I think many of us have been in the same situation (or at least a similar situation facing a parallel problem). As others have said, do what is right for you; let the beard grow if that is your preference. Don’t feel pressured by presumed societal norms.

BUT…. Shaving your face is a relatively small obstacle compared what you will likely face in adulthood. It can be an extremely empowering to put yourself out there, get out of your comfort zone, and figure out how to manage those talks that were previously very daunting.

Maybe this an opportunity for you to push your boundaries, maybe not, but I whole-heartedly encourage you to step out of your comfort zone sooner rather than later. You got this!!

A blade razor (example a gillette 5 blade cartridge) and gel works great. I highly reccomend shaving in the hot shower. A blade shave like this can help with adult acne also. Also, shave as often as you like, it doesn’t have to be every day. I’ve always had a light beard. I’ve always shaved on a day that I work but i will go 7 days sometimes not shaving. Also at 16 years old you might still be growing into your adult beardedness.

Clippers to trim it short is my go-to nowadays, but I’m 44yo and retired, so I don’t have to be clean shaven anymore.

If you want to shave, get yourself a double-edge razor and some quality shaving soap. It’s the manly equivalent of a facial; feels great and removes all the dead skin cells, so it’s really about more than just hair removal.

Get the normal one. It’s amazing.

I’m probably coming close to a decade since the last time my face has been clean shaved. Just keep it tidy.

Sounds like you need to stop shaving and grow that shit out.

Use clippers. Like for hair on your head. No guard, run the smooth side along face. I do that once a week to keep it groomed and short

Hey man, I’m 29 and I still wait until I look like a homeless dude before shaving. I totally get the “whenever I think about grabbing the shaver I just feel weird about it”. I dread it for some reason but it only takes like 5 minutes to shave lol

Two words. Safety Razor. Changed my life.

Thats a you problem isn’t it. You are suppose to be learning how to over come problems. And this one isn’t even a hard problem at all.

Also if you have let your beard grow you need to trim the hair before shaving. Head trimmers with no guard should do the trick.

Yes. Don’t bother. Let that beard flow.

I make sure I shave when my skin is clean and moist. I rub the shaving gel into my skin as opposed to just putting it on the hair. I use Harry’s blades and change them often. I haven’t had a nick or cut in years. Good luck.

Hey man, it’s your favorite older cousin with a metric fuckload of body hair.

The only thing worse than shaving is having a shitty looking beard.

Get a set of electric “trimmers”. Trust me, they’ll come in handy when you’re dating within the next 5 years. Use that to knock down the length. Next, get a braun shaver (I run the shitty cheap blue one and it’s okay) and go to town. It doesn’t like cutting hair over 1/8″, so that’s where the trimmer comes in.

If your face gets all crazy, make sure you shave at night and then shower after. Moisturize your skin, it helps.

Lastly, get a halfway decent set of tweezers online. If you have bad red bumps a week ish after shaving, those are ingrown hairs. Just tweeze them out and it’ll be clear the next day.

FYI: I’m in my mid 30s and refuse to touch a real razor and shaving cream. Just such an ass pain in the morning, and I don’t actually like that close of a shave.

Skip the electric and go for a blade. Seriously.
