i’d assume there isn’t but i’m from california and i was thinking “wow im so lucky to have mexican candy just here”. In california you can find it everywhere—even chain stores like walmart or target—is it like that everywhere?

Nope
Many people back east have probably never seen a chamoy-based sweet in their lives.
Near Mexico? I have no idea but I guess maybe. In the vast majority of states? No bueno
Sadly, no.
Mexican markets exist and they contain Mexican candy. But it doesn’t exist in a regular grocery store around here.
Not necessarily. But if there’s a large Latino population, you’ll likely find a small selection nearby. I live in SE WI and our grocery stores often have Mexican candy in them. You don’t find much of it in the Picknsave/Kroger but you will find more in Piggly Wiggly. You find the most in “the Mexican Piggly Wiggly”. They also have conchas and bolillos 🤤
Can confirm these is none up here in New England
I’m in Montana. Aside from Mexican markets, the states biggest chain of convenience stores all have a 1/4 or 1/2 aisle of Mexican candy.
I’ve never seen a Mexican candy store, personally.
Not in Michigan, but mercados are everywhere you find a decent Mexican population.
Our local Kroger has Mexican soda and such. They probably have a few goodies.
In the Seattle area I see Mexican candy and chips at gas stations. It’s a big tradition for me and my husband to stop by one on the way out on a road trip to pick something we’ve never had before.
I’ve never been to a state that didn’t have a more Mexican grocery store that didn’t sell Mexican candy. Maybe once you hit the super white states like Vermont or something it’ll be difficult. But hit a major city and there’s probably a place selling what you want.
I’m in Des Moines, IA and most grocery stores here have a section for Mexican foods, candy included.
All over Arizona, especially metro phoenix
Probably not much Mexican candy in Vermont.
I havnt done the research but id imagine most states have at least one Mexican grocery store. And they’ll have it obviously. But you cant go into just some grocery store and expect to find those hot by sweet Mexican treats. Should clarify, I mean in the continental U.S. id be shocked if Alaska or Hawaii had a Mexican grocery store
I’m in Connecticut and was not even aware that Mexican candy is a thing
Texas too obviously. I love me some Pulparindos.
I am in Louisiana and we don’t have Mexican candy in chain grocery stores here. I have never had it. When I lived in NYC they sold Mexican sodas in many places. In Louisiana there is a small section of ethnic foods and an even tinier section of Mexican. It’s odd to me considering we border Texas.
As someone who has lived in multiple states, you can find them at Mexican markets or international markets which are usually not in most places outside of major cities.
You definitely don’t find it like in California, where you can even get it at most gas stations/convenience stores in SoCal.
Nope. We can probably find it in specialty stores, but it’s not just going to be sitting in a random Target.
No. (Midwest checking in – I’m sure it exists someplace but you’d have to really make an effort to find it unless you’re in a big city like St. Louis)
Probably not every state. The grocery stores in my suburb of central Virginia have a small selection, but we also seem to have an unexpectedly high population of Mexicans here.
I’ve honestly never looked specifically for candy, but I know I can get Jarritos from just about any grocery store around Florida. Strange enough, but I don’t think we have very many Mexicans. I’m sure it varies in different areas, but growing up in Orlando I can’t remember any of my friends or classmates who were Mexican specifically.
Not here in the north east.
Here in Texas, it’s fairly easy to find in Hispanic-majority areas, regular grocery stores will often have it. But in areas without a Hispanic majority, you might have to go to specialty stores to get it.
No, but I’m intrigued. What are your favorite things? What’s worth tracking down and trying?
Depends on state. States with huge Hispanic populations (usually the South) will have it. Some things will be in special aisles others will be mixed in at a regular grocery store. That’s on top of novelty shops and markets. Personally I’ve seen them in Texas, Florida, New Mexico but not in Oklahoma, Kansas, or Colordo.
I’m not real clear on what “Mexican candy” is
Yes, at the Mexican grocery store and a little at the big chains and gas stations.
We have tons of Mexican grocery stores near me. Most of the regular grocery stores have a section labeled international foods that is 75% or more Mexican, and a few other random things. Even the gas stations and tobacco store type places usually have some Mexican drinks or candy.
Not like that in most of Arkansas, but it’s like 40% Hispanic where I am.
There is here in Houston.
There is by me (western Chicago suburbs)
I’m in Florida and I’ve seen Mexican markets that sell Mexican food/ homemade Mexican food plus diff flavors of things you wouldn’t normally see in Publix.
But I saw a lot more Mexican candy at the grocery store when I lived in Arizona versus where I’m currently at in FL
here in our town it does, but we have a pretty big mexican population (central illinois)
Nope. There are lots of Mexican markets, though.
I love many aspects of Mexican cuisine. Posole. Mole. Lengua burritos/tacos (eating tongue and heart has never bothered me). Flan. Tinga.
But the candy? Can’t do it. I don’t like it at all.
Uh no. I don’t think I’ve even seen one.
No
Many grocery stores here have some Mexican candy, but in some towns without many Mexican folks you might not find any there.
There’s a few of them in Brooklyn
I’m in a tiny rural place on the east coast, and we have it in some stores. It’s because people come up here to work on area farms during planting and harvest season.
We’ve been seeing it more and more where I live and I’m here for it!
There are in Colorado. And there’s a section in the grocery store, but YMMV based on neighborhood demographics. The ones I go to have Mexican candy sections.
I don’t know about candy, but grocery stores in Utah have Mexican sodas, juices, cookies, popsicles, and dried peppers.
Kansas grocery stores do not.
In Texas “Mexican Candy” is called “candy” and it exists everywhere
None near me in PA.
I think one particular Walmart near me has Mexican candy.
We don’t have many Mexicans here, most Latino people here are from Puerto Rico or Guatemala.
In Salt Lake City we have two dedicated Mexican candy stores, a Mexican supermarket chain with three big stores, and a bunch of smaller Mexican bakeries and bodegas. Lots of Mexican candy and sweets available. Other supermarkets here only carry a few Mexican candies (chili spoons, chiclosos), cookies/cakes and sodas.
Most groceries I’ve been to in the southern states (especially FL, TX, NM, AZ, CA) have Mexican candy, including HEB, Walmart, Publix.
New Mexico – most places have Mexican snacks and such, and Mexican markets / supermercados are pretty easy to get to.
Texas – maybe 1/3 of places carry them, and I didn’t see a single supermercado in the decade living there. I hated it.
In Arizona I can get them at any gas station or grocery store. But yeah Arizona…
I live in a city Ohio where there’s a large immigrant population. We’ve got candy from a bunch of different places here, but especially Mexico. They have this particular kind of lemonade cookies here that I would eat by the boatload if I could.
Heck even Walmart carries mexican candies in NM
In my local grocery, yes. We have a *huge* selection of imported stuff (not just Mexican) – like, several aisles worth. But, we are also a town with a lot of immigrants.
We also have several smaller groceries aimed at specific immigrant populations, so also available in a couple of those.
Not in our generic chain stores or gas station minimarts, however. It’s available, but you have to seek it out.
I’m in South Carolina, I don’t see Mexican candy, or maybe just dont notice it. But I do see Mexican pastries and drinks in convenience stores all the time.
I’ve seen a couple things here in Indiana that are in normal grocery stores. Those round peanut things and those corn shaped suckers. I’m sure there’s more, but that’s what I see in the checkout line.
I see it in Colorado sometimes, but it’s definitely not in every store, and often just in sections for either Mexican or international foods.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen any for sale.
You will probably not be surprised that we have lots of Mexican candy in every supermarket and convenience store in Texas.
Kansas- yes, regularly
