Is this something we can go to the police about?

Hey guys. So, I’m not sure about the laws in New York, but my daughter is being threatened by people she goes to school with. We THINK we know who it is, due to details of what’s being said, but they used an email address to text her, with the last name of someone in her school (it’s not a common name), but the first name is different (as an example: she goes to school with Jane Smith, but the email is from Diane Smith). But they’ve told her you’re getting killed, and that they’re going to get jumped, even near teachers. They also told her they’re going to beat her face into the ground.

Are we able to go to the police? Or without knowing a definitive person, will the police be virtually useless? My daughter is terrified to go back to school (in two weeks), and is asking to be home schooled. She had some issues last year, and the school was less than helpful, so she’s quite worried.

You’re always able to go to the police. What they do with the information is unanswerable.

Definitely go to the police. They can help. Hopefully, they’ll choose to.

Continue bringing it up to the school administration. Run it up the chain of command to the school board if you haven’t already. Also look into contacting local news. Schools tend to react to a news article making them look incompetent or apethetic
