I know I will probably get hate from a lot of people for this, but most people don’t understand what it means to raise food animals in such a way that they can be considered organic. In my opinion, plants are the only food that can be ethically produced under organic guidelines.
Food animals can get sick like all animals can. However, in order for these animals to be considered organic, they cannot be medically treated with antibiotics or most pain medications. This means that when these animals get sick, they’re left to suffer through painful diseases that could easily be treated.
There’s a lot of fear mongering about the use of antibiotics and other medical interventions in food animals, but there’s something called a ‘withdrawal time.’ Each medication has a specific withdrawal time during which an animal cannot be sold for meat or their byproducts. Once the withdrawal time is over, there are literally no drug residues left in the animal—we know this because we’ve tested each of these drugs and their withdrawal times extensively.
Organic guidelines are based on feelings and most have no scientific backing for why they are in place.

No, it isn’t unethical. It’s responsible.
It is unethical to defer to opinions as facts when trying to get your point across, though 🙂
Incidentally, a lot of people consider raising non organic food animals as also unethical…maybe it’s not the medicine that’s the ethical line here?
I go out and hunt organic deer pigs squirrel and rabbits each year for hunting season that’s an option too..
I lived in an organic farm in Hawaii. If one of their animals got injured or sick, they shot it and ate it (if it was appropriate to eat). It bothered me, but I respected them for it in a way. Vets are very hard to come by there.
Honestly I think an agree with you, you’ve got my upvote. I mean this is kind of a weird one because some would argue that raising any animal with the intent to slaughter it is unethical.
But I would definitely agree that denying medical treatment to an animal because it’ll make you feel better eating it is definitely wrong. However I could then argue that with appropriate regulation moar of these animals would be culled and not eaten (or at least just culled) when the begin to show pain that is not normal. But overall yes I agree with the overall premise, I’m just not sure how often that truly happens.
That said, having seen some videos of these faculties I’d imagine more than a few slip through the cracks
Wow just opened my eyes. It’s like the double side to vegetarianism is the amount of pesticides and chemicals they use to protect and grow those croups consistently.
