It’s been a long time since she went nuclear. Progress or tactic?

r/

I noticed that my MIL has stopped going nuclear and using NC as punishment with my BF (and in the past also me) for more than a year now. She used to do this at least twice a year in the past and before she stopped, it was even as often as every couple of months.

FYI, BF still has contact with her and while the nuclear explosions have stopped, her extreme guilt tripping and angry texts when she doesn’t get her way and blaming me for everything that goes wrong between them have not. My BF dreads going over there because everything is always so negative.

Now I have been NC with her for almost two years (yay!!) And as I was reflecting back on the past two years, I noticed her change in behaviour in no longer blowing up and using NC as punishment.

Is this progress? Is it sinking in that her behaviour was abhorrent? I would so love for it to be her changing for the better…
Or is it due to me choosing to be NC and her just switching tactics? 🤔
