I’ve added the not safe for work as I’m aware that this can be a triggering topic.
I’m in the UK and on Wednesday I am having my IUD removed. When it went in I was under a general anesthestic and I have not met the doctor taking it out so I am nervous about what will happen as all I have had is a text with the appointment and that’s it.
What can I do to prepare for it coming out? I have to go straight back to work afterwards so any and all help is greatly appreciated.
The reason I am having it out is because my gynocologist advised my ovarian cysts could be influenced by my IUD and won’t do anything to help me until they are out and my cysts are 6-10cm on my ovaries are being blamed on my IUD so this is a step to be taken seriously as it were.
Thanks everyone.

When I had one removed, it was easy peasy. Way easier than when it was implanted! I was honestly surprised. But, if you are different, I would take precautions for possible spotting (ie: pad or such). Call the doctor’s office, because I don’t think you will experience any pain. No more than a pap smear. They don’t need to dilate, so you should be good.
I had a terrible experience having mine inserted, and so I was near tears with anxiety when I went in for the removal. It was not bad at all, and I was able to go on about my day as usual afterward.
Now, I did talk with my doctor and the nurse present beforehand about my experience with the insertion and concerns. (I was actually late to the appointment because I was almost sick with nerves…I called ahead and explained what was going on.) She was very reassuring and took extra care with me during the process—which was also super quick, thankfully. So my advice would be to try to communicate any concerns very openly before the procedure. A good provider will be understanding and address any concerns you might have.
Best of luck!
