I’ve lost 30 pounds since my father’s death 2 1/2 months ago. What do I do?

r/

My father died 2 1/2 months ago on march 7th. Since then I’ve gone from 190lbs 315b, 455s, 550dl. To 159 pounds struggling to press 225 on bench press for 1 rep.
Every time I go to eat, my body forces it out one way or another. I don’t want this but I don’t know what to do.

    Go see a doctor

Try drinking it? Talk to your doctor? Psychiatrist(who in difference to psychologists are also medical doctors)?

Seems like a mental thing. I’d see a PCP and therapist. I hope you get this figured out my dude

Therapy. Your dad died. That’s a huge mental blow, no matter what your relationship was like. You need to treat your brain right, because it’s in charge of your body.

I would seek out a psychiatrist and/or grief counselor; it sounds like you have issues to work through.

So sorry man, I’m dreading the day. I’m not one to jump to a therapist but in this case you might too.

I lost so much weight after my brother died in 2021 this is completely normal. I still haven’t gained it all back but that’s my fault I keep letting shit stress me out. You’re still grieving.
One day I just decided my grief was enough and to live again. My body rejected food too I just never ate it cause I felt like I would vomit..
Started smoking weed heavy instead of sparingly like I used to. But what I found was my body accepted healthy food.
So I was eating fruits and salads until I could eat regular again. It doesn’t take long maybe a few days but you might not be able to eat as much as you used to at first.
    My condolences 🙏🏽

I also react to stress and depression by simply not being hungry. Get some help with grief therapy and I hope this pattern changes for you. In the mean time premade protien shakes can help preserve weight.

    Cyproheptadine, maybe?

    EMT here.

This is dangerous weight loss without medical supervision. You could be dangerously dehydrated and or suffering from nutritional deficiencies that can mess you up.

If you’re becoming noticeably weaker, you probably need an ER visit. I’d bet my next paycheck they will end up pumping several liters of IV fluids into you.

I don’t know about the weight loss part but I do know that you severely increase the probability of tendon ruptures and other training-related injuries when in an undernourished/glycogen-depleted state. Do NOT attempt your previous 1RMs until you have recovered. I’d go as far as to say don’t lift any weight that you can’t reasonably perform for at least 5 strict reps until you’re the majority of the way back to your starting weight.

I lost my dad start of January too, shit’s rough. Keep trucking, motherfucker.

When you lose your Dad, it is a pretty big trauma. Same for Moms.

This is why foreign women date North American men. It’s not even a test – it’s the trade off. You want a submissive foreign wife, they want a traditional and wealthier man. Don’t be bitter – it’s literally what you went looking for. If you think you get to take while giving nothing in return, don’t be surprised when the other person isn’t ready to take the deal you are offering.
