They swap partners, then give each other ducks.

I believe it started with a Canadian woman who liked Jeeps. She had a bag of plastic ducks and left one on some guy’s Jeep she saw in a car park. I think she took a photo and posted it to a Jeep group she was involved with.

The post goes viral among Jeep owners who start to copy her. Eventually, people start asking what’s the deal with all these ducks on Jeeps. The story gets picked up by a news outlet and then the craze spreads around the world.

I think the woman died fairly recently.

EDIT – “After having been yelled at at a gas station for allegedly not observing health protocols and because of her American license plate, she stated she felt inspired to leave one of the ducks on a Jeep in a store parking lot with a simple note stating “nice Jeep” as an act of kindness. The owner of the vehicle saw Parliament commit the action of ducking, and suggested making a social media post. The post went viral, which then popularized the action.

Parliament’s mother announced on Facebook that she died unexpectedly of natural causes on June 22, 2024″

I sold my jeep before the duck thing started. My jeep spent many hours in the arizona desert, going places few vehicles could navigate. No ducks encountered. I would not have wanted to participate in the kitschy little duck fad.

As the owner of an older Jeep, it seems like this ducking trend doesn’t apply to us. I’ve yet to see any older Jeeps with ducks.
