Judge asked “How old do women live these days?” when deciding alimony. WWYD?

Hello all. My more glaring question is, what really takes a judge to get disbarred?

My parents just finished their divorce today after a grueling 5 day trial. My abusive, cheating, death-threat-sending father ended up walking away with 85% of his net worth. There were many statements that took me by surprise that I’ve heard of over the few hours since. The judge seemed to just want the case to be over- stating “don’t ask how I came up with this number” and “I don’t even want to explain this” after deciding what was “fair”.

My father was found in contempt at the end (after getting caught lying too many times), and yet the judge said “You’re getting a warning, but if you do this again (referring to future courts) I might have to do something about it.”

My jaw dropped when I heard how he behaved. He apparently didn’t realize what a big case it was (net worth in the xxx, xxx, xxx range). It is insane to me how a judge could act this way.

My father was a serial cheater, sent death threats to her, her legal assistant, and myself. He once tried to solicit my mom’s best friend for sex. Two of his lawyers quit. One a few months before the trial. He has done so many horrible things, yet it seems mom’s value is reduced to being a stay at home mom. He claimed she wouldn’t be intimate (it was later revealed that he wrote an email stating that he found sex disgusting, as he was cheating). They were married for 36 years. My mother did an amazing job raising her children alone. But after all that, she’s left with 9 years of alimony (she’s 58), and heart issues (probably due to stress).

I’m not sure if I’m looking for real answers or just to feel better, but how is this considered fair? I know the southern legal system is prejudiced against women, but could that be proven in an appeal? I honestly hope she might. The uglier sides of me know that these statements could become widespread but idk.

Can anyone offer advice? Is this how judges are allowed to behave, and how divorces should be settled? Crazy man.

I think you can appeal his decision and another judge will determine if there was misconduct.

She should be able to appeal, but just to clarify you say she only got 9 years of alimony but didn’t she also get 15% of his more than 100 million net worth, so at least 15 million depending on how big his net worth actually is.
