Just because something is “trendy” doesn’t mean it’s good — looking at you, Stanley Cups.

r/

I don’t get the obsession with these massive water bottles. I’ve seen people literally run over others in stores for them. They’re bulky, spill easily, and cost way too much. But because it’s trendy on TikTok, suddenly everyone needs one? It’s a cup. We’ve had cups for years.
Am I missing something?

Congratulations you figured out what a trend is

They are good?! They keep things at their temperature for far longer than regular bottles.

I got so worked up about hockey for a split second

I like how cold it keeps my water and how nicely the water flows from the straw. It’s also a good size.

Stanley Cups are rightfully one of the most sought after possessions in the world.

The work that goes into it, the history, so many people pulling together is necessary to make it a reality.

Every time I see a picture of one of the owners of this fine crafted metal container, they are living their best life, filling it with everything they enjoy, I have even seen them hold it above their heads and kiss it in jubilation.

So much better than that lame Lombardi trophy. You can’t even drink out of that trophy.

I never even touched one. But they look really similar to the yeti cup i bought a few years ago before the stanley trend.

If they are anything like the yeti one i got. I found it really expensive when i bought it at first. But, the things that made me love it and use it daily for a few years now are :

1 – It keeps things warm way longer than any coffee mug i ever tried. Its actually pretty genius mechanism where there is a vacuum seal that makes it more indulated than if air was in the metal.

2 – It cleans really easily. Most coffee mugs have some closing mechanism that makes it impossible to clean well. I never had any residual coffee taste from these cups.

3 – Durability wise, it still looks and feels new.

That is if stanley is similar to yeti cups, but if it is, i believe people hopped on the trend when the car burned. But, the trend snowballed because those type of mugs are better than the old type of coffee mug.

I dunno – Oilers could go one better this year.

Move to Toronto. Not a Stanley Cup in sight

We have had cups for years, but people are just slowly getting dumb enough that they can be convinced that expensive cups solve all their problems.

I have an owala because it doesn’t spill and I’ve had it for ages

  12. nuesse33 Avatar

I can’t speak for the Stanley tumblers themselves, but I have a Stanley thermos that I would put up against pretty much anything

As a product, any vacuum insulated cup is a gamechanger for temperature retention. Ice just doesn’t melt for like a day, and hot drinks stay hot too long for their own good.

But the weird craze around that brand in particular, and the social status associated it with was weird. It’s like the iPhone of cups and the people who get upset over the green messages.

    Is this still a ‘trend’?

I have one and it falls over if you’re not used to setting it down correctly or if you bump it and they leak like crazy.

But!! If it’s my water cup for the day I will drink SO MUCH more water. It’s basically an adult sippy cup and I’m getting bored sensory satisfaction out of sucking water down with it all day. Idk!

I have ONE not 50 by the way. 😳😂 I’ve seen the photos. Ppl trying to fill the void. It don’t work!

Definitely true. Stanley cups are on my list of overrated stuff

  17. Fubai97b Avatar

In my one cup was enough for two girls

I have one that I bought for like $20 before the hype. On sale (like 4+ years ago).

I just wanna say that I think it’s hilarious that people are trampling over one another for them AND that people are judging me for having one! 🤣

I think most people never made the connection between Alcoholic Women and Stanley Cups. During Covid lockdowns many people began day drinking and drinking while working on the computer.

Then everyone went back to work and it became a huge problem to hide your alcohol when you went to work. The main thing that they kept insisting was so incredible about the Stanley Cup is that it would keep things ICE COLD for hours.

So an alcoholic could fill up the cup with ice that did not melt at all, and then load in their choice of alcohol and still have room for mixers if they wanted it. Then take it into work and nurse on it all day. The cup is sealed solid, opague. No one could see or smell what was in the cup. Everyone was talking about “soccer moms and their iced lattes” so it was a perfect cover.

A Stanley cup holds 40 fluid ounces
A standard bottle of wine contains approximately 25.36 fluid ounces

A Standard Bottle hard alcohol (Fifth): 750 ml = 25.4 ounces

Every time I see someone obsessed with their Stanley Cup I think it’s a closet alcoholic.

My husband and I got a pair a a gift. We also camp. I think the technical term is actually glamp. They seem nice. They were also free. Win win. Don’t even know how much they cost but they’re nicer than the cheap camping cups we were using than burned my lips every trip.

I swear, every time I see someone walking around with one of those like it’s a fashion statement, I feel like I missed the secret memo. It’s like… when did hydration become a personality? 😅 I’ll stick to my $5 bottle that doesn’t need a viral dance to work, thanks.

  22. chumbucket77 Avatar

I almost fuckin lost my shit cause I though you were taking a run at the stanley cup

  23. Express_Buffalo7118 Avatar

I love large thermos cups, but Stanley’s aren’t great. The cup leaks when tipped over and the shape is annoying as hell, please just get a random thermos cup and not pay 20$ more for a logo.

  24. Vivid_Excuse_6547 Avatar

I have one and it’s a great for keeping cold water handy at my desk all day and fits nicely in my car’s cup holder.

The key word here is one. I don’t need a special edition or 2 or 5 of 10 of them. My black Stanley cup will last many many years. The overconsumption of them defeats the purpose, but it’s a nice insulated cup for normal people who just want a nice cup.

  25. Wetland_Nerd_304 Avatar

I agree. I feel this way about Jeeps, red velvet cake, any apple products ect. It all comes down to what consumers want to spend their few extra dollars on to feel good. I spend mine on stupid shit that Stanley lovers and Jeep people probably shake their fist at.

  26. FamiliarRadio9275 Avatar

I am a water bottle whore as I am always keeping one on me. I don’t hop on trends, I hop on discounts. But never will I buy a Stanley. Yeti, and Owala for the win

  27. Kaurifish Avatar

My stainless steel bottle has been keeping me hydrated for a couple decades now. 🤷‍♀️

People have strange priorities. I don’t get it either.

  29. ghidfg Avatar

Theres a reddit cleaning trend of using Irish spring 5 in 1 body wash to clean bathtubs. It’s probably 3x more expensive and less effective than a purpose made cleaner. Idk what people are thinking

  30. flyingpiggos Avatar

Ngl I love my 2 Stanley’s. One is the classic, the other is the ice flow (handle on top and flip straw). They were both free. But there’s no way in hell I’m paying $50 for a cup. I had a knockoff one before and it was very bad compared to the Stanley brand one. I’m one of those people who puts bracelets and bows on it (free will)

I can’t imagine writing a reddit post about something that happened a few years ago.

Stanley was the first to make a vacuum insulated flask ever. Basically, without Stanley, we wouldn’t have no insulated tumbler trend.
