I just turned 20. It’s all hitting. I’m still in hs (covid hit and my mom died so I was getting some benifits for being in school for a year longer. Then I ended up having 35 elective credits and never did them because I started working and got busy. Now I’m 20 without finishing my hs (I’ve contacted my councilor and they said they can help with adult school to finish them up). Am I cooked. I’m genuinely feeling so embarrassed about being in hs school. At any point in the last year I could’ve just finished them. Now I’m unable to do it in the original school I was in and have to enroll elsewhere. Idk. Sucks. Gotta lock in.
Just turned 20 and I’m behind…

You are fucking behind, but you still got 60 years left of life. So what the fuck are you gonna do to make today differently than al l the other previous days you fucked up.
Here are some wise words by someone who couldn’t read and couldn’t write, yet still got after it .
[wake the fuck up
Yeah that’s behind but not THAT behind. It’s not like you’re 25 and still in high school. It sucks but don’t beat yourself up over it.
That’s why life is seen as a marathon and not a race. Things happened in your life that slowed you down but you’re still moving forward. You’re still progressing. It’s aight that things take longer. There is no deadline that says everything must be done by such and such year.
Just keep pushing forward man.
You are behind, but you are not cooked, and it’s almost certainly not over. You are still young. A lot of people take a year off after high school. A lot fail a whole year in college. A lot struggle a year or more to get a job. A lot struggle to find stability.
A lot of people are behind. And the more years go by, the more people fall behind. You are late, but if you lock in, by the time you reach your mid 20s, you might find yourself ahead of other again.
Not at all cooked. The goal is just to get to the next step, then nobody asks about the steps that happened before.
My example: nobody asked my high school GPA after I had my college degree. Nobody asked my college GPA after I got my masters. And now nobody even asks me what I studied now that I’ve got industry experience. And thank god because some of those GPAs weren’t the best! They were just good enough to get me to the next step.
Your example: nobody will ask you when you graduated high school after you’ve done it. And they certainly won’t ask after you get an associates, a professional credential/cert (ex: ACE cert), or a bachelors, or even just work experience.
Work with your counselor to get through to that next step, then you’ll be good to go. And a lot of people “waste” a whole lot more than 2 years; I’d strongly argue you didn’t waste it though because you had to do what you had to do in the face of some pretty shitty circumstances
Chin up and get it my dood.
Edit: oh and regarding the embarrassment. If anyone’s giving you shit for putting in the work to better your own life, they can go sit on a pinecone attached to a pneumatic drill.
Re: Am I cooked?
No, you are not cooked. My brother never finished high school. Later he got a GED, went into sales and retired a millionaire. Consider getting a GED. It’s time to move on and start your adult life.
The more important question is what will you do for a career.
Choose something that pays well enough and that you can do all day every day. It needs to be a real, paying, grown up job/career.
You are fine. I felt I needed college to help get ahead, ran out of money and had to drop out. I learned some things but it only set me back. I worked hard and now I’m doing what I wanted to do anyways without the degree
Just get out of high school and get your GED.
I dropped out of high school in grade 9 due to depression. Completed my GED at 22 and finished college with a bachelors degree at 28. If you continue to compare yourself to others you’ll always be behind and focus less on your own goals. Stop that shit and continue to try your best regardless. Comparison is the theft of all joy and a great way to counter it is by practicing gratitude.
Don’t sweat it bother. you’re never behind unless you give up. Keep moving forward and be the best you can.
Bro there’s nothing to be embarrassed about, just keep your head down and do your thing. Don’t care what anyone says or thinks. Just treat every day as an individual without thinking about the next, keep it one at a time
Start some where
