“Kind of” is one of the most annoying things you can say.

r/

I don’t get why so many people use “kind of” in every other sentence. “I kind of like it,” “I kind of think that’s wrong,” “It’s kind of confusing.” Either you like it or you don’t. Either it’s confusing or it’s not. Pick a side and speak like you mean it.

“Kind of” is just verbal clutter. It makes everything sound watered-down and uncertain. It’s not polite. It’s not thoughtful. It’s just vague and passive. Same with “sort of,” “like,” and “you know.” People use them to hedge because they’re afraid of sounding too assertive but it just makes them harder to listen to.

If you’re trying to make a point or express an opinion, stop softening everything. It’s fine to speak clearly and directly. The more people rely on fillers like “kind of,” the more they train themselves to sound unsure even when they’re not.

Also I started noticing it more and more in YouTube videos.

EDIT: I understand it has its use cases and sometimes better than the alternatives. However it’s extremely annoying when it’s said every other sentence.

Low-key I kinda understand what you’re getting at

“I kind of like it” is quicker than saying “I like it a little bit but there’s also some aspects I don’t like”

So you don’t like gray areas? Similar things and situations?

I get the lingual pet peeve, but these wordings have their use cases.

Um like, um, I kinda think that’s like annoying too

You know like that’s sort of your opinion man, kind of.

Things aren’t always black and white bro. You could kind of like something but it’s not fully equivalent to saying “I like it”. Because kind of shows some hesitation in you

Congratulations, you hate when people sugarcoat stuff, you’re French

Kind of just means something is a gray area

Why is there always someone trying to optimize speaking. Doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Why are you getting annoyed with how someone else, who’s been blessed enough to even be able to speak, says something?

IKR, it is kind of annoying when somebody does that

Like like like…I hate it. Also “you guys.” Or the exponentially worse “you guys’s”.

It’s not a hedge. I “kind of” like it means i don’t care but if you do then go ahead.

I’m ok with having it but don’t count on me on paying for it.

To be fair I say “kinda”, as in this opinion is kinda dumb but here we are

i used to be annoyed at adults that used to be like “you do or you don’t” in response to saying kinda. but now being older and having to deal with some people i’ve found myself doing the same
