Stress and it’s impact on our lives is definitely something that needs more studying. Its scary to have neurological symptoms for anyone, and I’m glad you’re seeing an appropriate medical professional for it. That’s a huge first step. Is there anything specifically that is causing you anxiety regarding this?

I’ve definitely like skipped periods because of chronic stress, I did have a lot of migraines in the past that were stress triggered but also since I finally got glasses I haven’t had one. It’s good to see a doctor – it might be something as benign as needing glasses or contacts. It’s unlikely you’re developing a brain tumor.

i had this a few years ago. led to going on anti-anxiety meds and pursuing a job change. going blind for a lil bit from stress was quite the wake up call that my high-stress lifestyle was unsustainable.

I gave myself TMJ dysfunction due to grinding from stress. It also gave me migraines and full body muscle pain/issues, both which I never had before. Lost a tooth from it too. A big stresser was my toxic marriage and my health got way better once I left but I’m still left with a damaged jaw.

I would get your labs checked. It could be just the anxiety or it could be a vitamin deficiency. I would get B12 and folate tested. Make sure if you are taking any multivitamins with b or b vitamins to stop them 4 months before. You should also get your ferritin and iron checked. Vitamin d and magnesium. I would get a comprehensive metabolic panel done as it will show some electrolytes. I know it’s hard with anxiety but for me spiraling down a google search just makes things worse. Just take it one step at a time and start with labs. Anxiety can unfortunately cause a lot of issues and it’s definitely something I would try to manage easier said than done.

I had chronic hives due to stress from a previous job that went on for years. As soon as I quit the job, the hives went away. Surprise surprise.

I hope your neurologist or other medical professionals are able to give you more clarity on what’s going on, and hopefully a path to getting better!

Do you have high blood pressure? If so, it’s treatable!

Yes. 100%. Some of what you describe can also be caused by vitamin deficiency; like B12.

I developed Psychogenic Non-Epilectic Seizures and it took a very long time to understand what was going on. It was one of the hardest times of my life. But I needed to go through it to understand that I had to change everything about the way I was living. Everything was coming to a head, but I just kept white knuckling it.

Are you hoping that your issue will be stress related vs. Something physical – such as a degenerative disease?

I had numbness and tingling in the lower half of my body once due to stress. It was actually really scary.

Did you have an eye exam?

For sure. I get migraines and tension headaches from stress.

The longer it goes on, the less I can think clearly. Pain and insomnia will make you crazy. About once a year, I have a 4 day episode and wonder if it’s a brain tumor.

Glad you’re seeing a doctor. Try to distract yourself while you wait for test results.

Would you happen to be over 35? Fluctuating hormones can cause double and blurry vision, and headaches. 35 is early for perimenopause but not unheard of. Not to chalk all women’s health up to hormones and anxiety but it is a possibility that they’ve hopefully looked into?

Absolutely. Currently taking a break from working to figure out what I want to do “when I grow up”. I turn 40 next month and won’t be returning to a career in finance, which lasted 14 years. I can’t control everything in my personal life that causes me stress, but I’m certainly not looking for a job that will wake me up in the middle of the night. Stress related events triggered hypothyroidism around 8 years ago, which then snowballed into depression and anxiety disorders (thanks to living through COVID as well). I was literally laid off in the spring within 24 hours of telling my mom I was planning on quitting. I’m fine financially & I’m grateful I’ve been able to spend this summer traveling and having fun for the first time in almost a decade. In the past few years I’ve been able to get off Lexapro & Ambien, and now I’m weaning myself off Welbutrin. I still have some work to do personally, but I’m feeling more like myself than I have in years. My only advice is to listen to your body, recognize what you can or can’t handle, and make the changes needed to take back control where you can. It’s been hard, don’t get me wrong, but I know I’m doing the right thing for me. I’m sure someone somewhere is judging me hard right now, but it’s my life & my body, and we only get one of each, right?
