An entire new career! I went back to college and graduated at 48. I am a scientist! Started working doing lots of interesting things. I am “mid-career” (13 years in), but can retire in three.
Along with going to school, I basically changed everything about my entire life. Moved to a place I always wanted to be, spent years working on a ranch and knocking around the mountains.
I had way more passion after 40 than I did before.
One was teaching myself how to read and translate ancient Chinese words and texts. I was super heavy into it for around seven years until it got old (pun intended).
Another is writing a hobby fiction book of love stories, of which I also use for researching how to create strong positive emotions that cannot naturally occur in modern societies. After more than ten years and millions of words, it has become central in my life.
For over twenty years I devoted a lot of time and energy into creating top ranked websites. However, due to the horrific abuse by bots (including AI), I recently deleted all of the websites except one that has contact information.
Another project was the design and proctoring of a unique mental cognition test, which ran for over 20 years before I finally retired it. The results were wide-eyed unexpected.
My latest entry into a growing passion is attempting to unravel some of the natures of ‘weird physics’. I have been collecting data for decades, but now I am growing seriously curious of the how and why specific events blatantly defy all known 3D physics. I get all giddy when I solve one part, but then two more questions arise. I expect to be working on the project the rest of my life (20-30 years).
i opened my first bar and grill after 40. have since sold the biz and am collecting a nice income on renting it out. i’m doing commission art now, after a 15 yr commercial art career started in my 30s. and i threw a couple years of installing solar panels into the mix during that.

Watercolor painting.
At 47, I’m still looking for it. Songwriting has been a recent diversion I’m enjoying.
Just being alive, man.

A good night’s sleep and having no more F’s to give. So freeing!

people who are bored are boring.
I was a 24/7 caregiver for my wife and read books to her. She succumbed to leukemia but I kept reading, even joined a seniors book club.
Glam.
Didn’t happen until my 50’s but gardening is pretty damn cool now.
