Latin Americans, What Scams have Gringos (especially US gringos) committed in your countries?

r/

Argentina’s government appears to have fallen prey to a roving pack of US crypto scammers connected to the US President, himself a crypto scammer.

El Salvador was, until last year, a hotbed of Bitcoin and Tether scammer activity but their President acquired new IMF loans that required ending his legal tender mandate for Bitcoin.

Colombia has had predator gringos from the US posing as “tourists” and “expatriates” using multiple Colombian girlfriends to either scam other US gringos also posing as “tourists” and “expatriates”, or using Colombians to set up fake companies and charities to scam both locals and foreigners.

Please share your stories about Gringo scammers treating your country as their playground. If your country has been immune to their scams, please share what you think are the reasons and cultural aspects that would make it difficult for them.

    Pat Robertson/club 700 churches. He needed a foothold in the country so he could dig for gold on the low. Did this in multiple LA/Caribbean countries

    * uh that’s not a scam dude.

    * El Salvador has over $300mil worth of bitcoin last I checked, even despite the downturn. It’s more than what they spend on military. In other words, that money will potentially change ES for the better.

    * Tether is one of the largest crypto companies and they recently relocated to El Salvador

    * those aren’t scams

    Apparently reversing charges and taking advantage of a certain resort chain will get you thrown in jail (where they should be)!

    Gringo scammers always come to Panama thinking they will get away with shit but only Panamanian elite are allowed to scam in my country!

    They build these sovereign citizen island paradise promising stuff that can’t be done. You are still in Panama and under Panamanian law. Usually investment gets lost and whoever is trying to pump the scam ends up running away or in jail.

    The american dream, that you would get to america, work some time and get back to your country with money, what truly happens is that you get there to work in jobs that no one wants, than be treated as some sort of thief who is destroying their country or stealing their jobs by serving them, than if you ever broke you pinky you will have an debit trap for your entire fucking life, and as those jobs tend to be in construction, farming or other kind of hard labours it becomes quite common for you to get injured and trapped in a country where everyone hates you to pay an stupidly high bill.

     It is sad how many people that falls for this trap.

    The one you wrote about Colombia is the right one, but I don’t know anything about charitable actions by Americans, especially in Bogota. In the end, I only read “Gringo scamming Gringo,” but the truth is that americans are very naive, and it’s usually the other way around.

    Having all the meetings, days, times and blockchain events displayed and analyzed there’s no possible scenario where the government didn’t know what they were getting into. They weren’t scammed but took part in something beyond shady.

    To be honest, the gringo damage to the region isn’t particularly by scamming rather than establishing a neocolonial economic structure to undermine sovereignty and growth, which is something “scamfull” but most of the times legal.

    Latam’s machismo combined with American inceldom is birthing something horrible and dangerous.
