I purchased a home two years ago with a relatively new roof that was installed in 2014. We’ve since experienced significant water issues. We are the third homeowners, but we discovered that the original owner had a 30+ year warranty on the roof.
I contacted the manufacturer, CertainTeed, and they agreed to transfer the warranty to our names. We initiated a claim, had the roof inspected, and everything was proceeding—until CertainTeed informed us they would not move forward with the claim because we are not the second homeowners.
However, they were the ones who willingly transferred the warranty to us in the first place. I’m trying to understand our legal standing in this situation and what recourse, if any, we might have.
