I was addicted to competitive gaming for a long time. I quit ’cause my social life was miserable. Getting a job prevented me from going back, but I never found anything that gave me the satisfaction that competitive gaming did (League of Legends, Starcraft 2).
I practiced various sports throughout the years. Running, Boxing, jumping rope. I love to workout, but still never had the same dopamine Rush that LoL gave me.
Now, they set up a ping pong table at the office, and every time I go, I play after work with my colleagues. It is insane the amounts of fun that we have. It feels similar to when I played League of Legends. I have some very competitive co workers and we play real hardcore (not that we are that good yet, but still). You could try it, if you want a similar dopamine experience than with esports, it may suit you.

Now I’m addicted to competitive ping pong on the Oculus what now?
You should try competitive dodgeball
It’s a great tip though it’s not so easy to implement.
Everyone has a ball with ping pong.
I’m really vibing with this idea. When I was in a similar spot, I was so hooked on games like Overwatch and Dota 2, but it really took a toll on my social life and productivity. I couldn’t find anything that matched that mix of excitement and competition until I got into Ultimate Frisbee, believe it or not. It’s funny, but there’s just something about a fast-paced game where you have to quickly strategize and think on your feet.
Your ping pong story totally makes sense. It brings in that rush of quick reflexes, competition, and social interaction. Plus, the added bonus of some light exercise is a game-changer. I found that being part of a sports team or league just adds a layer you don’t get from gaming alone because there’s all that chit-chat and bonding over strategies off the field too. So it scratches that itch to talk about the game even when you’re not playing. I always kind of wanted to try ping pong more seriously, and now you’ve got me thinking it could be worth setting up a table in the garage or something. The idea just keeps bouncing around in my mind…
