I am so sick of being at a party and someone suggesting to play mafia, and everyone else being on board and having to pretend that it’s such a fun game. It takes way too long to fucking play, being a civilian is fucking useless and not fun, and being voted out in the early rounds is fucking brutal. You have to watch everyone else have fun and find out the reveal. A much better game would be avalon, or even clue conspiracy. Those games are genuinely fun, and I don’t have to pretend to enjoy them. I hate playing mafia, and really hope I never have to play it again.

I think the game secret hitler is a better version of the game. However if your into deception and playful arguments like myself you’ll enjoy it.
Any game where someone can get “killed” five minutes in and have nothing to do for the next 45 minutes is terribly designed. It’s not even like they lost, they just had the misfortune of being the first person who must be kicked out of the game.
One night ultimate werewolf is a better game. Also it only takes about 10 minutes a round.
If you want an actual good version of Mafia/Werewolf, play Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. Turns the idea into an actual game and has been an incredible fun time at my get-togethers. We end up playing it for hours whenever I bring it, but of course the stipulation is you need a good group of people as it is with any social deduction game.
Played it once, I was high af and surrounded by strangers. I was a mafia member, and my high brain got really paranoid abt all these new ppl I just met finding out I was evil and killing them. So I locked in and squirreled out of a lot of tough questioning, including from the one friend connection I had being like, in a private whisper, “hey, are you mafia?” His face was so earnest and I was so high I just kind of nodded yes, and he laughed and was like nahhhhh yr not mafia. I voted to kill my other mafia members so I would look less suspicious and I’ll be damned if I didn’t win that damn game. A huge relief in that moment.
All in all, yeah. The whole thing is a little much. That was my first and last time playing.

I agree, I never play the original version bc of the reasons you listed. However, one-night ultimate werewolf has none of these issues and is a lot more fun. No more boring roles (if you don’t want), and nobody gets eliminated and has to spectate for the remainder of the game
