Maintenance man has been stalking me and coming into my apartment without permission

r/

( location: NC) My neighbor and I (25) are fairly close. Her kid likes playing with my dog and she used to watch my little siblings and I when we were in elementary school. They live right across the hall. My apartment is very security forward. 24/7 security and phone unlocks the outside and inside doors and allows elevator use. Without the phone you can’t get in or use the elevators to get up to the unit floors. I just moved here not too long ago.

My neighbor came to me yesterday and was basically like “hey I have been having plumbing issues are you having them too? I haven’t been able to get maintenance to come to my unit.” I told her no I haven’t had any issues. She looked confused. Then she said “oh what’s going on in your place then?” I said nothing… why? She proceeds to say “I’ve seen maintenance coming in and out of your apartment for over a week on my ring camera now.” ( I don’t have a ring camera because the apartment is heavily secured as stated previously so I didn’t see the need for one. ) my dog is also no guard dog. Honestly if he was able to unlock and open the door for people he would let just anyone in lol.

She showed me the footage. This man has been coming in and out of my apartment every day for over a week. I have a camera in my kitchen that I use to watch my dog when I go to work. So I looked at the footage on the dates that matched the footage her ring captured.

This man has been coming into my apartment 10-15 minutes after I leave (means he has been stalking me because I leave to do different things at different times throughout the week) and coming in and laying on my bed, sniffing my socks and underwear, going into my closet and fridge. I haven’t submitted any maintenance requests and he obviously isn’t doing any maintenance work in the footage my indoor camera captured b

What can I do? Can I sue my complex? I don’t want to move. I just got here and I like this complex. My lease clearly states they need permission to enter my unit or will notify resident ahead of time if they need to enter for any other reason. I have already filed charges so that I can get a restraining order.

You need to take all that camera footage to management. That man needs to be fired!! You stay and he should go. He’s breaking and entering, since there is no reason for him to be there. He’s obviously a pervert with smelling your underwear, etc. You could even go to the B police about it. Protect yourself!!

Go to the police. This might qualify for unlawful entry. Might even be able to break your lease, but that’s a lot harder. Might need to get a lawyer for that.
