Mastering the art of dealing with stupidity

r/

It’s unfortunate and a reality that some situations are stupid. The problem is that with age, you’re much better at spotting it. It’s rampant and an everyday occurrence. What am I talking about?

Driving and traffic. You’ve seen it.
Karen’s and Chads. Upset and offended on extremely minor issues.
Virtue Signaling. I’m not involved but I’m totally involved.
I personally bury it out of my mind. But it’s a reality. It’s very hard to rationalize it. You see things that don’t make sense and you start making very mean scenarios in your head.

Any wisdom to stop the thought train?

Get therapy. I don’t think about stupid shit people do around me for any meaningful amount of time.

Just always ask yourself if anything is worth it.

I learned to just tune it out, it never stops and thinking about it takes up my time so I will no longer spent my time worrying about others.

Become more confident in yourself and stop paying attention to the views and opinions of others. Frankly, there is often very little value in what most people think about any important topic. You’re better of learning facts about the world and developing your own positions.

The only thing worse than being offended by something minor is being offended about people who are offended about something minor.

(Oh, and some grammar advice: You’re not offended “on issues”. That’s not the right conjunction.)

The internet has made shameless stupidity mainstream. There was a time when people wanted to hide it.

Rest assured that stupidity still does hold people back in many walks of life. Unfortunately, politics isn’t one of them.

You can only control what you can control. Ignore the rest.

I just don’t argue with conservatives online, easier to call them an idiot and move on without letting them affect you

I try not to give people free rent in my head. I also just stopped caring less and give people more grace. Life is difficult and with how connected we are it seems like the world is on the verge of falling apart. A lot of people are amped up to 11 so I just let it go and walk away. It isn’t worth getting pissed off or being bothered by minor interactions that have already ended.

Explore empathy and compassion. Someone is having the worst day of their life today. Ease off the gas, let people in, don’t react to their reaction. Be mindful.

I used to run my mouth nonstop about stupid people and how their actions always pissed me off, I had a boss in my early 20’s that got sick of it and asked “Drew, if you’re so smart, why haven’t you figured out how to not let all these stupid people get to you yet?”, serving me a tall glass of ShutTheFuckUp. So every time it’s happened since, my first thought is “How do I prevent myself from getting pissed at this in the future?”

I’m still terrible in traffic, but I’m also a metal vocalist, so it’s a good time to practice screaming.
