Hi all, I’m hoping that that you guys could help me settle this “problem”. I’m thinking about going back to college and getting another bachelor’s degree. I don’t know that I need to do this, I’ve already been accepted into a master’s program previously. I wasn’t able to take the offer at that time, but honestly? I don’t mind. I don’t like that program anymore (museum studies) and I want to do something else altogether. That said, I’m not sure if I’m ready to do a master’s program. I don’t know how difficult it would be, and my technical skills are mediocre (my grammar, mostly). I’m thinking about doing research, something in sociology or an academic journalist with a focus in sociology. Generally, I like looking at issues and trends, questioning them, and writing essays about my findings. Also nervous about hitting the word/page count in a more advanced program, I’ve always hated that.
I find the whole thing to be somewhat intimidating. I feel like I don’t know enough to be an academic/researcher, although the whole point is to learn more. Do you guys typically get unrelated questions when you tell someone that you’re an academic? Occasionally when I mention that I’ve graduated from college, people start getting strange ideas about what I know, yet nobody asks me about my actual major 😐 I’m slightly worried that I’ll become a sociopolitical researcher (just an example) and get asked about marriage rituals in ancient Greece. That’s not a huge issue, but it’s still weird to me lol
