Me & my husband went no contact with MIL should the rest of my family block her too?

r/

MIL has repeatedly been hurtful to me and I’ve given her chance after chance. I blocked her on everything and went low contact but now after she declines to come to my baby shower I want to cut her off for good. She still has my mom and sister on social media and I don’t want her seeing the baby and keeping tabs on our life through my family’s social media. Is it controlling of me to ask my family to block her? What would you do?

explaining and asking is not controlling

trying to force them if they refuse will be tho

Explain to your mom and sister what is going on. Chances are they will block her on their own, but if they don’t I don’t see any problem with you saying “given how she’s treated me would you mind blocking her so she can’t baby’s pictures?”

Talk to them. It’s most likely they have accepted friend requests etc because of you. If they knew how badly you have been treated, would they still want to be friends with her? And if they did, why would you be sending them pictures/updates? Surely you’d just be grey rocking them, too!

Explain first then ask. However whether or not they actually do is up to them and you have no say in that.

You can also ask that they don’t post pictures of the baby.

You may want to consider telling your family that you do not wish to have them posting about you or your DH on social media. Reasonable people will respect your wishes.
Either way- if this is a boundary for you and you communicate it- its up to you what happens if noone follows the boundary.

We went through a similar scenario, went NC with MIL (FIL doesn’t do social media) SIL made it easy for her to still keep tabs on us, although now (this was several years ago) we don’t post much of anything. Had to go NC with her. In short I think it is in your core families best interest for no one to be social media followers of MIL.
