Im 16 meeting my soon to be girlfriends dad tomorrow. It’s my first time meeting any girls dad so I want to make a good impression. I’ve met the mom and shes nice, but from what I’ve heard the dad can be a bit rough. It’s just the girl, her dad, and I going to out a casual lunch. I’ll be paying for myself but what else should I know to seem like a decent person.

Be respectful to both him and his daughter. I’m sure you’re respectful enough as is (hopefully so) but it’s crucial that he sees you treating his daughter like a gentleman would. Mind your manners, behavior, and posture. You might get nervous and feel like you’re coming across as trying too hard to impress him but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. A dad that knows his daughter’s bf is a bit afraid of him will feel more at ease letting you two see each other because he knows there’s a small voice in the back of your head telling you not to hurt his daughter or he might hurt you. Make eye contact when either of you are speaking (but don’t turn it into a staring contest) and be mindful to include your soon to be gf in the conversation every now and then so she doesn’t feel like a 3rd wheel. Take care of your hygeine and make yourself presentable before the date. You don’t have to show up in a tux but try to pick out some of your nicer clothes. Maybe a casual collared shirt instead of a t-shirt with your favor artist on it and a clean pair of jeans instead of the pair with tears running down the leg.
