I mainly think ive just grown up, but honeslty if you stop the dopamine loop and really just look at social media 90 percent of memes really aren’t that funny at all.
It’s mostly just middle school level jokes, “haha this guy is humping the air.” Or the punchline is just sex or this guy is black. It’s honestly just all brain rot, people reapeting or remaking the same lame jokes that were kinda funny over and over again.
Just look at youtube shorts half of it are just clips trying to emotionally bait you, brain rot movie edits “content creators” making the laziest content ever.
For my fellow melanin dont even get me started on Kai cenat, druski, djakademicsharline ect. It’s literally just brain rot stereotype grifting making the CIAs job 10x easier if you catch my drift.
At the ripe age of 25 social media is really just starting to cringe me out. Not being able to control the content you see and always having more content from random accounts than what you follow have made it just brain rot on all of my feeds, and im starting to realize being a grown adult and memes is becoming a very cringe mix like adults using Snapchat still. Sending reels is the new streaks.
My least favorite is the nasally sounding guy that guy that just says a basic thing then plays the clip with no context. Or any account that just clip farms the internet and only ads a basic statement or just sits in greenscreen doing absolutely nothing but making the short or reel weird.
I could go on a whole diffrent rant about comments and all content itself, artists ect but yeah memes really just aren’t that funny to me anymore and I think thats natural with maturing and growing up, reading comment sections reminds me of a middle school social dynamic “look at what I consume” “look what I think is funny” “look im in on the joke too.”
Don’t get me wrong there’s funny creators and accounts out there and great content but it becomes a needle in a haystack when an algorithm is working 24/7 to brain rot you or trigger you or show you the next trend.

Funny memes are still funny. I’m 38, but I get you on some level for sure. We’re all burned out on a lot of things.
Now tell us your favorite memes from when you were a teenager and how sophisticated their were.
Troll face and nyan cat are not any better than what’s out there now. You just grew up. Brainrot is eternal, youth is not.
The Internet as a whole was better before everyone was on it. When my grandma started sharing memes on social media, it was over.
Are all memes funny ? No
Are some memes funny ? Yes
Not like what you saw, that were humor masterpieces that adults couldnt understand.
Not like what adults actually liked to laugh with, wich was shit for their elders.
Not like what the elders liked that was great even if their elders thought it was horrible.
Do you grasp the concept?
What if I told you……
…they never were.

Correction, Gen Z and Gen alpha memes are bad. Millennials will always be top tier at memes. We coined it.
Welcome to getting older. Soon you’ll stop blaming the things around you for changing and realize it’s you changing. I look at my 25yr old self and laugh now, at 43. Only thing I miss is the energy I had.
Memes were never (rarely) funny. Even in the Renaissance of memes in the late 2000s/early 2010s, I’ve rarely been impressed with a meme. Maybe that’s why I’ve almost never shared one myself.
Modern memes only last a week compared to ones 15-20 years ago
Forget the post, im gonna hyperfixiate on that Snapchat mention.
What’s everyone’s deal with hating on Snapchat? Oh my god and adult sending pictures? So cringe! It’s literally no different than texting people, except the main aspect is visual representation.
IMO, the short videos are the worst. There is a guy I used to work with quite some time ago, and he will out of the blue send me like 5 videos in one afternoon. Then a week later another 3 or 4. I watch absolutely none of them. We’re both older Gen X guys too… so maybe he is more hip on the Tik Tok than me? I don’t know, seems like a distraction, I don’t bother with them.
This opinion is reminiscent of the episode of South Park when Stan “grows up” and everything turns into shit
Social media were never source of funny memes. They always either repeated stuff that originated on 4chan or transformed it into inferior versions.
You’ve changed there’s something different about like you’re just so mature now
Don’t get me started on streamers and how they’re all unfunny grifters making way too much money
