anyone else have this stuff around home as a kid? I just thought of it, out of the blue.
it came in square bars about half an inch across on each size and maybe six inches long. one of those adult things you weren’t supposed to play with, but it was so irresistible that we always did.

I have a vague memory of something like this but cannot really place it.
Do you mean for making seals on envelopes? or some other sort of thing?
Ours was always in red sticks, like thick crayons and you can still get it in all sorts of colours, including gold. However, it was pretty boring stuff.
Never saw it in my 77 years!
Yes, still use it. When the Reddit mods approve.
I remember them well. I worked in a hardware store back in the ‘60s when I was a teenager and we sold wax sticks in our ‘art aisle’ where we stocked tubes of glues, oil paints, colored pencils and fat sidewalk chalks. They were about 6” long 3/4” square, blue or red. Not a big seller.
A woman who frequented our store needing window screens her cat tore up repaired always bought a bunch of wax sticks at Christmas time to put her personal steel stamp onto the back of the envelopes for the cards she mailed. She said she wished we had scented ones, preferably cinnamon.
I had a girlfriend in college that used red sealing wax on her letters. I assume she melted the wax into a puddle on the envelope and then had some type of stamp that she pressed into it while still hot. The stamp had her initial embossed on it.
My grandad used to have a seal with a monogram of his initials on it. Used to play with it and sealing wax as a kid. No-one ever had problems with kids using fire back then!
Yes! My mum had some red sealing wax and a stamp in a special box…I wasn’t supposed to play with it but I was home alone a lot while the parents were working so…
