Going to the barbershop for your run of the mill haircut? -> 15-20€
Going to a certified hairstylist that is licensed to cut hair? 50-60€
The latter is mostly applicable for longer hair and includes a consultation.
I’d rather go to a hairstylist every 6 months or maybe even just once a year than go to the barbershop every few weeks.
Pricing also obviously depends on the location. Larger cities will be way more expensive than small ones obvs
I have long hair so it can get expensive. Even when I don’t have long hair I’m super picky because I have weird cowlicks that some people just don’t know what to do with. So I’m usually around $80-ish after tip. Thankfully, right now I only get it cut about once or twice a year.
Haircut and beard trim from a stylist (because my barber retired) is $85 after a tip. She makes me look like a guy from a magazine, and my wife loves it. Definitely try an expensive haircut if you haven’t before
$18, and the shop I go to loves my tips so much the owner AND the staff always bump me to the top and say I had an “appointment” whenever I walk in (I think… I don’t speak Spanish).
EDIT: I spend $40 whenever I go, because I used to pay $40 at the last place I went to. So my tips are always $22 cash. Minus whatever for taxes, I’m not doing the math and I don’t take the receipt.
I’m used to paying $45 plus a tip. I have thick curly hair and the woman who cut it did an excellent job and she showed me some nice products to put in it. Now that I moved my sister does it for me. I try to help her clean, play my niece and nephews while she gets a power nap in, or leave her some cash if I am in a hurry.
Been cutting my own hair for some years now. It’s definitely a skill and the first few were bad. The current cut isn’t great but I’ve got the rest of my life to get better at it.
Question for those who pay a professional and tip said professional. Why do you tip? You don’t tip your dentist, electrician, car mechanic, or insurance agent, what makes a barber different from other professional work?
I bought a buzz cutter recently and just give myself the number 8. If Jake Gyllenhaal can pull it off, I reckon I can too. 20 bucks upfront, and then like 10 minutes every month, has been a huge money and time saver.
I am sure it’s above average but I see the owner of the salon whenever I want, no appt needed and it’s $55 + tip. My wife says you don’t tip the owner but I always do. I used to get bad haricuts at Supecuts for $25 or so and I spent years cutting my own hair so I don’t mind. She does a great job, shaves my neck, hot rosemary-scented towel, free beer if I want it and she trims my eyebrows so I don’t look like a crazy person. She’s also fun to talk to.
$40 including tip, every month. I’ve come to expect that they will straight razor my neck as part of that offering. I have begun to feel like my parents when I complain about the cost of a haircut. I remember when I was a kid it was like $17 with a tip at a large haircut chain.
0 right now, clippers/bald. Forgot my clippers last time we were in az and to do a #3/2 trim on my head was $20. Stupid I know, but broke even for not buying another pair of clippers for 4 months.
Haven’t cut my hair in 3+ years. Before that it was $40+tip every other week. Stopped because places didn’t like walk-ins and I was tired making appointments and getting rescheduled.
$0. I’ve been cutting my own hair since around college. Just wasnt worth the time I always had to spend waiting around in barbershops. My cut wasn’t overly complex enough to justify the time/cost. Learning to do simple tapers/fades isnt that hard.
Some of the barbershop culture i’ve witnessed became offputting as I got older as well. Some spots around me were just becons for the local douchebags. filled with loudmouth man babies who are pushing 30+ talking about bitches and hoes (barbers and patrons), not to mention the teenagers whose behavior was just abhorrent.
Had a nice thing once upon a time where my barber suggested I try the new guy who was a younger, deaf immigrant from uzbekistan but he didnt have the 5+ deep waitlist. Not only was he rock solid as a barber but the minimal chit chat was glorious. communicated via typing out in text messages. Sadly I moved away from that area and wasnt worth the drive and tolls to stick around. Hope that guy is still out there crushing it.
I gave my stylist my shoes a couple weeks ago for a trim and shape up. He said with the increase in prices due to the tariff scares, he’s going to need a fingertip next time.
last time (2 weeks ago) I paid 14 euros for a whole haircut .Nothing crazy but I sure as hell had lots of hair gone…so…yeah anything above 20 euros for such small work is a crime..
$0. Wahl clippers and a DE razor is all I need. I’ve been cuttting my own hair since 2018, so when COVID hit and barbershops were closed, I was good to go.
the ladies at my local barbershop still do a men’s haircut for $20. I don’t know how but god bless them. there are 4-5 other barberships within a quarter mile that charge 3-4x that amount.
I go to a well respected and reviewed, old school barbershop in St Louis. I pay $40 total including a tip for a beard trim and haircut. I think it’s $32 prior to the tip.

While fully recognizing my privilege in that I finally am at a place where $40 isn’t a huge deal anymore, I think mine is $39 and I tip a $5.
But it’s a great place, my guy does a great job, and the conversation is therapeutic. I’d pay $10 just to go there and hang out for an hour.

Like $25.00 with tip? It went up so fast. It’s not new, but I think it went from like $13 to $20 in 2 years. Great Clips. I’m simple.
I just donated my hair for the first time in January. Hair cut was free.
