Growing up my father would get really angry and throw things and slam doors. One time I think he actually pushed my mother.
My brother gets angry and slams things aswell. I’ve seen him hit walls, throw spoons, chase us around with knives when we were little (universal childhood experience lol)
My boyfriend gets angry. I’ve seen him get angry and be able to cool down, but I’ve also seen him get angry and slam a phone, punch a wall, and today he got so frustrated that he hit his drawer and threw his tool.
How normal is this and how many men can actually control their anger, because from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like it’s possible lol.

32yo, never have since being an adult. I’m pretty sure I remember throwing a couple tantrums as a child tho.
A lot during puberty, but as I got older that kind of faded away. I would argue that hitting objects could be a way to just let out your anger and could be quite healthy. I mean as long as you aren’t hurting someone else or yourself and it lets you get your frustrations out.
My dad used to slap the shit outta me and whip my bare ass with a belt or switch when I pissed him off. My dad was an overall decent guy and a great husband, but I’ll never fully forgive him for that.
Learnt it from my dad. Hate when I realise I’ve thrown something or bashed something because it makes me scared I’ll be like him.
Never aimed my anger at anyone else and if anyone is present I keep it in. On my own I might smack something though. Tonight I hit myself out of frustration.
>Men, how often do you get so angry that you throw/slam/hit something?
I’m trying to think of a single occasion in which I have done this………
Never!
Never. Not even when I was a kid. Doesn’t help anything. What’s the point?
Not in many years. And before that it, it was probably well over 10 years since the last one.
Fellas: emotional regulation is your friend.
Never as an adult. That is the behavior of a child.
I’ve never had anger to the point of throwing or hitting things. Adults should be able to control their emotions
Never?

This is not normal. Leave his fucking ass.
Never. I’ll raise my voice if I’m angry or frustrated at something but I’ve never felt the need to punch or throw anything.
He needs a punching bag.
Puberty and teenage years was a different me to say the least lol but as an adult, I dont really act out on my anger. I might curse under my breath or something along those lines but nothing really past that. I have a decent amount of physical outlets with bjj, lifting, running, biking, golf, etc. so I think I kinda get it out of my system thru my hobbies. Like golf is the one hobby where I’ll get irrationally frustrated but in a way, its really taught me to control my emotions and just enjoy being out in the sun which probably translates to my normal life. Bjj also get frustrating when you’re physically getting beat up lol but coming back for training the next day teaches you to kinda take shit on the chin and move on to the next.
This level of anger is unhealthy and sometimes a reflection of mental health issues.
Personally after experiencing severe frustration over a long period of time, I still rarely feel actual anger.
Alcohol makes me more vulnerable to anger but even then I’m mindful of it and good at preventing it before it starts.
The worst I do during a hobby such as gaming is slam my video game controller with moderate force down but on the pillow on my lap.
Due to PTSD I will rarely have trauma nightmares where I assault the person who wronged me and end up punching the air in my sleep and wake up angry and yelling but am able to quickly calm down once I do.
I usually utilise meditation, exercise, self-care, hydrate and painkillers to deal with stress and headaches caused by it.
Since I’ve been sober, not once. When I got sober I quit having temper tantrums.. who would have thought? lol
Never.
Similar to others, more when I was younger, but once in a blue moon now that I’m older.
Never in the presence of anyone else though, it’s always when I’m alone.
Almost never.
I used to get upset playing StarCraft 2. I’d sometimes pound my desk, but not with enough force to break or damage anything. I’d really get into playing the game. Other than that, never. Like if I get upset with someone or something I feel frustration, but never to the point where I break or damage stuff.
Gurl… your dating your past.
This ain’t about men and anger its about patterns.
You grew up around explosive anger, so now your nervous system thinks that’s familiar… maybe even normal. But it’s not healthy, and definitely not safe long-term.
Throwing tools, punching walls, chasing people with knives that’s not “just frustration.” That’s a warning sign.
Your not obligated to carry your family’s trauma into your relationships.
You can unlearn what you saw. You can surround yourself with people who deal with anger without violence or destruction. Men who process, breathe, talk, walk away, get help. They exist. And they’re worth waiting for.
Break the cycle. Heal first, love after.
Never, usually I just say fuck in a slightly louder voice than usual, then 5-10 seconds later I’m over it.
I stopped throwing tantrums when I was 10
I’ve punched my pillow maybe once or twice in my life when alone in my room and feeling profound anger. I can’t imagine behaving like that in the presence of another person.
never
Grew up in a chaotic fighting house as youngest of 4. Yelling all the time, doors, walls punched, holes kicked, anger just open and out there. Swore no way I’d live like that. And i don’t. Grow up, learn to regulate ur feelings. If ur mad, take a drive. Take a walk. My sister and brother never resolved their anger. They still yell, fight with kids and spouse. Unregulated anger is such a horrible way to raise ur kids.
It’s been a long ass time. Maybe 20+ years. I agree with you dating your past.
Just about never. Maybe actually never. Real men use their words.
Used to. Got scared about it once I had kids and, well, kids will piss you right the fuck off sometimes.
Got therapy, started working on sleeping better because emotional regulation is evidently the first thing I lose when I’m really tired.
Now I can tell when I’m getting frustrated and just walk away, but before it was a bigger issue.
So to sum up – every time this question comes up the responses are like half ‘oh yeah, happens a bunch’ and half ‘what? No, not since I was like 5’
So. There you go.
I have always been able to manage my composure… also my dad showed me how to release anger through healthy physical activity, not physical outbursts.
So this really hasn’t been bad for me
never done anything like that in my life. if i get angry I go to the gym. if furious, a walk.
men who throw/slam/hit are not men, they’re children.
Almost never. The last time I threw something in anger was when a girl I had a crush on royally screwed me over after getting her into a night club with her friend. This was back in 2021. My buddy has a picture of me from the gas station where we stopped at food for food afterward, and I am just seething in the photo. I ended up tossing my drink outside on the asphalt about as hard as I could.
I was angry and hurt at the same time thanks to her actions. That night soured my opinion on her really bad.
