Men, how was your first time in a gym?

Confusing as shit. A lot of YouTubing different machines and lifts, wandering around, and trying to discreetly watch others do sets to figure out what to do.
After that, amazing. The gym is my meditation, with weights and lots of grunting. Tantric gym meditation I guess.
I was scared and had no idea what I was doing. Quickly realized nobody is paying attention to me, nobody cares, and things have been great since. I’ve been going to the gym 3 days a week for almost 10 years now, it’s just a part of my life routine at this point.
Walked in thinking I’d lift like Rocky, walked out realizing 5lb dumbbells are heavier than they look. Humbling… but I kept going back. 💪
Easy and not scary. I was expecting a bunch of jacked meat heads and bodybuilders. It’s mostly just middle aged people trying to keep the doctor away – and good for them.
I went on the treadmill for 15 minutes and I was unable to walk for about the same amount of time. I legitimately had to sit down I was that unhealthy
The very first gym I was in had included three personal training sessions for introduction. Very chill, he made sure I’m not overdoing it and that every move is correct
Bought a beach towel and did some dumbbells. Now I never do those.
Couldn’t lift much and needed to google how to use the machines.
It’s definitely a little humbling. People will be focused on themselves, just fo your thing. Start with very light weights, just do the motions and gradually increase weight. The great news is that your progress will be rapid. You just need to build up some stabilizer muscles and get used to the movements.
My wife and I joined at the same time, we’ve gone to two intro sessions to learn to use the machines and we partner with each other and try to use neighboring machines. I try not to pay attention to anyone else and I don’t think anyone really notices us. I have nodded at a few people we see consistently.
Kinda sucked. I had no clue what i was doing and my phone wasn’t cooperating that day to i couldn’t do much research on site.
Terrible mostly, my friend just helped me a lot if i was solo ild just leave
i was nervous as hell. i also realised how weak my body was. Wanted too quit directly but now i am nearly 4 years in and gained about 12 kg
It’s intimidating and you’ll think everyone is looking at you but the reality is that nobody at all is. But you should be watching others for ideas and how exercise with proper form. Don’t be afraid to ask anyone for advice either—most gym rats are happy to help newbies out (at least I am). Most importantly is give it time. Don’t expect to see instant gains. Don’t expect to see gains in a few weeks. It’s a slow game.
My advice is to find a beginner program, and then watch some YouTube videos on how to do the lifts with proper form. You’re going to be a bit lost at first most likely and will need to figure out gym etiquette, but that’s how everyone is at first. Just focus on being safe and respectful of others’ space and time.
Hated it.
Ummmmm, not sure my memories go back that far
I got a quick guide form one of the trainers, discussed what kind of goals i wanted to achieve and he recommended a few things, showed me some basic stretches and how to cool down stretch as well.
i would highly recommend that, in our gym it didn’t cost anything, but he could do an upload of a regime to their app that is linked to the machines, thats €50 and reviewed every 3 months, but i can manage that myself.
But i would highly recommend some kind of tracker to keep an eye on your heart rate and steps in the gym
I barely remember; it was at the YMCA, though, unless you want to count the gym in high school for PE class.
Don’t go suuuuper intense on your first few gym days, itll give you DOMS, and lock your muscles up for a day or two!
Gotta ease into it a bit untill you can go hard
You will be very sore, dont let that discourage you. Listen to your body because rest is just as important, especially first starting out.
Oh yeah horrible, wasnt even told where the changing rooms were spent maybe 9 mins finding it
Id advise walking up to a machine and reading the label or take a read of the name and youtube it
Make sure you start light, even when I start a new exercise I do it as light as I could do 20 of and increase the next day
Very confusing and overwhelming, didnt know how to use a lot of machines. Keep it simple at first with basic compound movements and explore different exercises as you go
Pretty anti climactic. Recommend a trainer for 1 to w sessions at the very least. I didnt known what any of the machine were or what I was supposed to do with them. Was super intimidating. Ended up walking on the treadmill and watching people do something. Then hopping in right after them and mimicking what ever they were doing on thay machine lol
