When I was in high school, a teammate a grade lower than me but 2 years younger that I barely knew asked me for a ride home after football practice because his mom had to work late and his house was on my way home. This turned into me bringing him to and from school every single day for the next 2 years and we made some incredible memories during our carpools. This was about 10 years ago, and he was killed by a drunk driver a little under 6 years ago and I still think about those car rides often.
Men of Reddit who’ve lost a close friend too young, what is your fondest memory of them?

I have lost a few.
I’ll write about one of them.
You know how during BBQ there’s one guy thats always on the grill?
He was that guy,
I remember being 19, I just had a weekend off from the army and I was at a bad place mentally, I felt down. Really down. I was drinking a lot, sleeping around etc..
During that weekend I got way too drunk and had accidentally called him instead of my brother to pick me up.
He woke up, drove 40 minutes.
Picked me up, he took me to his house. Washed me, sobered me up, gave me some of his clean clothes and opened his grill.
I think it was 5AM and the dude literally just got 2 steaks out and started cooking, made a fire, the whole shabang.
All while talking to me.
No judgment, no anything it was like he saw right through me, he put into words what I didn’t know how to describe and while this conversation didn’t make me stop drinking immediately it was a big reason as to why I stopped later.
I miss him so much.
Still haven’t got to visit any of my dead friend’s graves.
Lost my best friend at 15y.o due an aneurysm, teached me to pay attention to everyone in my life.
I remember listening music with him and doing mosh pits, we loved Green Day and Soundgarden, I’m almost 50 and I still tear up when I listen to Black Hole Sun.
