Everyone’s different. I have 6 different guy friends and we all handle stress differently. I’ve dated different women and they also handled it differently. Some women seem to breakdown and cry from stress, other women I dated were more quiet about it. Others preferred to talk and discuss it.

I see so much variation between individuals that I do not see gender specific trends

As a man, I became an addict to cope with stressful emotions. Now, I learned crying is much more beneficial than relapsing. I have gone through so much shit recently too I learned in an extreme way I’m powerless to it all. My addiction can’t save me, but cry my heart out will help.

I have my panic attacks about 4 minutes after the ordeal is over. Spinning out my car on ice? Cool as a cucumber and doing everything right. A few minutes later, driving along, shaking and sweating. On a related note, going sideways and/or backwards at 60 mph is somewhat disconcerting.

I can only speak for me and my wife but in a proper life-threatening emergency I’m very confident that she would need to discuss the plan and understand what needs to happen. Whereas I would already be in the car with the kids.

In real situations she just freezes and has decision paralysis, so I’m used to taking charge and reacting to the situation.

I don’t think this is a male/female thing though. This is a “my wife is a numpty” thing.

Men tend to deal with it internally

    • Keep it to themselves

Women tend to deal with it externally

    • Talk about it with someone

I don’t think there’s a gender difference. It’s more context, physiology, coping skills, support systems and life experiences.

It’s the mix of those things that determine how well and in what way people manage stress.
