Playstation plus
Barbershop. Have cut my own hair since Covid.
Steaks. Used to be a couple times a month. Now when 3 steaks are $60+, no thanks.
Chocolate.
Cigarettes are €18.50 for 20 here in Ireland.
I was spending €5k per year on poison.
8 months since my last smoke.
Canned soda. $11 for a 12 pack of coke is INSANE
Cigarettes. I didn’t quit for my health, I don’t care about that. I quit cause they cost way too much money and vaping is way fucking cheaper.
Strawberries. Was spending $16 a week on them
Concert tickets! $150 – $500 per ticket. For that price I should get a luxury box and a buffet.
Beef Jerky and lap dances. Poor strippers gettin’ laid off is heartbreaking.
Food
I quit buying new cars and went backwards. Mostly the tech bloat and fragile bullshit the dealership offers but also the cost.
Craig’s List…. companions.
Eggs
Streaming services.
Any console videogame over $60.
I am not paying half the price of the console for a videogame, and there really isn’t any good justification for charging anything more than $60, especially with microtransactions baked into basically every game nowadays.
At that point I’d rather just buy it on steam and play it on my computer.
Medical care.
Impulse shopping in general. I stick more closely to a budget and have a budget category literally for “shopping therapy.”
Hand made Nicaraguan cigars. The tariffs got me.
Fast food has become pointless when for like $2 more I can go to an actual real restaurant and have a much better meal with service and atmosphere
Delete me
McDonald’s and fast food in general
Paid 3.30€ for a cauliflower in Tesco, in Dublin last week. Never again. Country gone to the dogs.
I’ve stopped paying for pest control. I get my own chemicals at a fraction of the price.
Five Guys. $20 for a burger fries and a drink? Pass
La Croix/Bubbly water. I really enjoy them but it adds up and I can guzzle 4 or 5 of them bitches easy in a day.
House cleaning
Work pants from gougers like Carhartt and Duluth
Gift bags, cards, gift wrap, etc. We just reuse past ones, write our own cards. My son got a birthday present in a “cool mom” bag the other day.
Was in a rush going to a birthday party for one of my son’s friends, so I had to buy a bag from the store. Not a single option under $5. For a plain color paper bag. What. The. Fuck, Target?
Dominos pizza, after delivery fee/tip, a large pie was damn near $45. Meanwhile, a frozen pizza is like $12 and buying the stuff to make your own is less
Toilet paper
Potato chips
Beer, Restaurants, restorations listening to the CEO/c-suite bullshit.
Food at restaurants, I have learned to cook and have not eaten out at a restaurant in over 3 years. I have lost weight and feel better for it too.
Underwear and socks. Every single pair I own is just barely hanging in there by a thread. One day I feel that happiness of opening a fresh pair of either
Going out to eat. When my wife and I started dating and will into our marriage we went out every weekend. We’re both pretty health conscious and we eat healthy all week long. We enjoyed a little splurge on the weekends. The last several times we’ve gone out it hasn’t been a good experience and doesn’t feel like it’s worth it anymore. I can make better food at home and have badass lunches as leftovers throughout the week.
Eggs
Ribeyes
Chips. 5$ for a small bag? Ok. I’ll be healthy, I guess.
Disposable razors, I now just shave with a straight razor, had the same razor for 7 years now
Beef
I would never buy a new car, they are ALL over-priced a drop 20+% in the first year.
I stopped using major phone company plans. I have the same unlimited plan as my mother’s Verizon plan. I just pay $17/mo. Vs. $150/mo. for her.
PlayStation. So damn expensive now, can’t justify it
I can afford pretty much anything I want, but, I refuse to pay for streaming services because they are all garbage and not worth the money.
Beer. 12 dollars for midtier six pack. 7-8 dollars a pint at a restaurant. I know there’s cheaper beer, but it’s not worth drinking or paying for imo.
women
Dining out, except for breakfast. Still like going out for breakfast.
Years ago I quit smoking, drinking due to health and cost. Some time later I started buying a lot less meats and cheeses due to cost. I never really got into buying new clothes aside from sox and underwear. I damage my clothing so often it’s really pointless to buy new . over time clothes also got more expensive and quality dropped like a rock. If I need something I shop in second hand stores.
Due to high cost I never got into paying for vacation somewhere else, like travel to exotic places and such. Way too expensive for lousy food and questionable service.
Any sought upon sporting event or concert.
You can still see small acts and like MLB or MLS games for a reasonable price, but any somewhat popular musical act or highly sought after sporting event like an NFL game, and you aren’t getting in for less than $300. If you want a ticket that doesn’t suck, it’s gonna be $500.
I could still afford to go to a few a year if I chose, but it’s expensive enough to the point where it’s just not worth it anymore. I’d rather just go to the beach for free and spend the $500 on something nice.
Takeaway. I’d rather drive myself.
Let me start off by saying I’m a cheap fuck:
I’ve given up buying:
New clothes – mostly just shop at goodwill now
Food delivery – it’s a waste of money and it’s lazy af. I’ll pick it up myself or cook at home.
Restaurants – more for special occasions now.
Uber/Lyft – only when completely necessary. I’d rather walk, bike, metro, or drive myself (I live in a major city)
Streaming apps – I am grandfathered into a Spotify/Hulu deal for like $12/mo and the rest I just use friends/family.
Premium wireless service – I pay $15/mo for 5GB with Mint Mobile
Dating
Snacks from the gas station. It’s insane what they’re charging
BARBERSHOPS
I cut my own hair. I don’t remember last time I went to a barber.
TV/CABLE/WIFI
I dont own a tv nor I want to. Everything is on streaming services anyways so I use my phone for that… and because i use my phone I dont pay for WIFI either, I just have unlimited data instead. Haven’t missed it
GAME CONSOLES
way too expensive and I was never a fan of playing online with strangers. I just download emulators to my phone
Not completely but cutting down on fast food and streaming. I’d have cut Netflix if it wasn’t for WWE Raw
Fast food…been grilling , smoking at the house more
Dropped Netflix completely.
I used to go to a barber. Invested in a trimmer with attachments.
Delivery services for food. Sushi last night for my wife and I to be delivered would’ve been an extra $15. I don’t know the last time I have paid for food to be delivered instead of going to pick it up myself.
Bullets. I learned to reload after the last “they’re coming for our guns” panic.
I do competitive long range shooting and the round I’m firing is up to $5 each so reloading is the only way I can keep shooting it. I can reload them for under $1 each.
Hookers!!!! You’d think that thing was made of Gold!!!
Did I get your attention?? 😁
I haven’t cut back on much that I can think of.
I don’t go out to eat very often anymore. It’s not so much the cost, I just have no one to go with these days. I’m kinda old, so most friends have passed on, or are in nursing homes.
concert tickets. can’t stand the fees.
Gamesworkshop 40k miniatures. 1 model retails the same as what a box set use to retail for….and restaurant food. For example; subways 6 inch subways sells for about 10 bucks and a footlong is about 16 bucks. A combi is 20-22 bucks. I ain’t paying that for a freaking sandwich
I get my hair cut really short, grow it out for about 2.5 months, then repeat. First day photo I look like I joined the army, last day it looks like I was stranded on an island somewhere.
Fast food and soda. Which is a win/win honestly. It was a temptation when it was cheap. Now it’s not
movie tickets,.. piracy all the way
I almost never eat out, buy coffee out etc. it’s too expensive and I’m a good cook.
This morning I bought a flat white and a donut as I was travelling and hungry. It cost me about $15 (NZD). Fuck that.
Most fast food, and chain eateries. If I’m going to pay $20 a meal minimum, I might as well go somewhere nice or at the very least local. Hell I can stuff myself at the local diner for the same price it would be to grab a pizza or go to a fast food joint anymore.
Also frozen food. Shit is way too much, I can freeze my own thanks. Buy a small 3 foot chest freezer, it’ll pay for itself in about 2 months.
I used to eat out (cheap places: 8€ for a chinese menu, 10€ for a pizza) two times a week. Nowadays, 3 times… a month.
My gym membership. Went from 45 to 60, to 80 to 100.
Nothing ….. yet.
The place where I buy all my clothes from has started to get very expensive though.
Food.
Everything.
Oil changes.
I’ve purchased my last new car. I know it’s always been a bad investment money wise but I enjoy getting exactly the options I want and not having to worry about how others may have trashed the car. However, the price just isn’t worth it anymore. I can buy a used model and customize it to my specs for cheaper.
Haircuts. I recently asked my wife to start cutting my hair. It’s free and she does a decent job.
Alcohol. I drink maybe 1 beer a month, if that.
Haircuts. When the pandemic hit I got a clipper and started doing my own haircuts. Not amazing, but gets the job done. Edges could be cleaner in the back.
I used to pay $25 plus tip. I checked again recently at my old barbershop and now it’s like $40-50 for a standard haircut. Other higher end services go up to $100. it’s ridiculous.
Professional sporting events. A piece of asphalt to park your car in at the stadium is pushing $60, concessions are ludicrous, and the tickets themselves are outrageous.
Going out for lunch. Got in the habit of making my own lunches during COVID, and never went back. When a stank ass Burger King hamburger, fries and a soda eats a $20 bill… and you’re doing that or anything else 4-5 times a week… that shit adds UP. 😵
COULD I afford to do both? Yes… but I simply can’t justify it in my own mind. 🤷♂️
Used to go out to eat – sit down restaurant – at least once, sometimes twice on the weekend, and one during the week.
Now, maybe once a month.
Subscription services. No fast food/carry out. Beef Jerky. I cook mostly from scratch and make my own jerky now.
Men’s razors
Clothes.
I’ve never bought many clothes anyway, but nowadays I only buy what I strictly need.
Nothing, things are booming.
Movie tickets. There’s nothing that I can’t wait until it’s on cable or one of the 2 streaming services we get.
Health insurance
Magazine subscriptions and newspapers, the amount of content does not justify the cost.
TACO BELL FUCK THEM
I’m starting to lose my patience with the cost of a haircut. Has hair changed for men?
This may seem petty but it’s the first one I thought of. Chex Mix at gas stations and convenience stores. I love it and used to get it all the time. I travel a lot. It used to be $2 for a big bag. Now it’s $5 for a little bag.
Haircuts. Used to be dirt cheap to cut hair monthly.
Now I stretch out a haircut to 2-3 months
Income taxes.
