(Michigan) Father passed, no will, no spouse, no house, two siblings

r/

Location: Michigan

My father passed recently and has assets in multiple areas, I did find one beneficiary forum for vanguard with all assets split evenly to the beneficiaries (siblings), making us hope this was done on all accounts.

There was no house and two vehicles in his name, I’d like to give both to one sibling, all siblings are willing to work together on this and will not have legal issues with each other.

Where do we even start and should this and will this be kept out of probate?

I’m sorry for the loss of your father.

It’s going to depend on what assets actually end up in the estate. Assets with named beneficiaries are not part of the estate.

You’re probably going to have to do some type of probate for the cars. Michigan has shortcuts for small estates-,No%20Probate%20for%20Small%20Estates%3A%20Claiming%20Property%20With%20Affidavits,a%20bank%20or%20other%20institution).

Make sure you redirect his mail to one of you. It’s a good way to find out what he has and where it is, although it can take some time.
