Yes, but also, is that knowledge really that important

Your elders and youngers have lived through the rise of new technology that transformed their lives as well. Knowing about IIRC chats and PHP forums or floppy discs, or remembering Yahoo, or Flash a decade later, or remembering Tumblr another decade later…Do these offer any more benefit than say, knowing tape-based computers, or bakelite gramophones, or MP3 players, or nondigital cameras with Kodak film inside, and all the other tech that comes and goes?

This has to be one of the most millennial things I’ve ever heard said

Millennial born in 83. Definitely lived BEFORE the internet, I remember having computer lab once a month in 5th grade just to learn how to use a computer, no internet involved. It became a mainstream thing when we were tweens. Super Wild West chat rooms… some difficult lessons were learned about what’s a safe user name at 12 years old, and what “cyber” meant when I was 13. (Also caught my mom cheating in those chat rooms…. That was a long time ago… damn.)

As for living after the internet…. That remains to be seen. Lol

I enjoy the internet but I’m so glad I grew up without it or cellphones.

I’m 64. I lived a good life with no existence of a PC or laptop. Got a job. Then computers became the norm. I ended up director of IT for at that Fortune 500 company after starting at there before we had computers. We did payroll on paper! So…I respectfully disagree.

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever read on this sub. And I’ve read a lot of stupid things on this sub.

Don’t forget 9/11 in our teen years. There’s nothing like turning 18 and thinking you’ll be drafted to go to Iraq after seeing tons of military recruiters in your school.

Then the financial crisis in 2008 just as many of us were going out into the career field.

Being told about global warming in the 1990s then finding out 20 years later nobody did shit about it.

It’s not just the internet dude!

Today OP learns that several generations are alive at once

(Source: me. I was a young adult when I first used the internet, but was very much alive. So was my now-elderly boomer mother who is constantly on FB)

I love the name Millennial because it reminds me of the Millennium Falcon
