You might have heard popular opinion that money is the root of all evils.
I have unpopular opinion that money does bring happiness. No doubt about it. But how much, really?
Let’s say you don’t even have bread and butter — in that case, money isn’t just important, it’s critical for your survival.
But once you’ve taken care of your basic needs — think Maslow’s hierarchy — money is still good, but it stops bringing the same kind of happiness. The joy it gives starts to plateau.
That’s when people start seeking a deeper kind of happiness — the joy of giving, contributing to others, or making a difference in society. You feel good when you help others. This kind of happiness lasts longer… but even this has its limits.
At some point, you realize something powerful: you’re not just the destination of happiness — you’re also the source. You stop looking outside and start looking within. That’s where meditation, spirituality, and self-awareness come into play.
And then you stumble upon something you may have never experienced before — Bliss. Not the excitement of material joy, but something beyond, linked to energy centers in the body — especially the chakra at the top of your head. This bliss makes every other form of happiness feel small. And you realize: Just 20 minutes of meditation daily over time can lead to such deep joy. So why chase fleeting pleasures when you have access to this?
Eventually, this bliss deepens. You move into blissful states called Samadhi — multiple levels of it. Life feels 10x or even 100x better than before. You’re calm, powerful, unaffected by the chaos around you. It’s a state of invincibility. Then comes the moment when you begin to experience God — not as a belief, but as a reality, both inside and outside you. You start to understand everything at a deeper level. God was never hidden — just unrevealed until you were ready.
That’s why when people who’ve gone deep into meditation say, “Money is useless,” they aren’t wrong. Bliss is just… on another level. You don’t crave candy when you’ve tasted Alphonso mangoes. But remember — all this started because you had enough money to be stable in the first place.
So yes, in a way, money is the root of happiness. But it’s only the root — not the whole tree.

Except this almost never happens. It has been proven a million times over that money corrupts, that 99% of people who come into serious wealth begin to hoard said wealth. Wealthy people who donate do it for clout, tax write-offs, and PR.
If your theory was true, then there would be no poor, as the rich would choose to use their wealth to fix things like world hunger or install UBI.
Why wouldn’t rich people want UBI? If they want to help others as you say, and if money is the root of happiness, why don’t we have UBI? There is plenty of money in the world, and yet people are still unable to pay their rent.
*The love of money
I suppose it’s nice that we’re at least getting Hindu flavored prosperity gospel. It’s still nonsense that ignores the rabid inhumanity of the wealthy and their deranged need to hoard more and more, but at least it’s different
The only people that told me money was not important were the people who wanted to steal my money from me.
Oh money is a terrible thing, you don’t need that! Give it to me instead!
Money has diminishing returns after a certain point. The reality is whether your making 250k or a million you will be just as happy. Both people are making a majority of their wealth from stocks and bonuses.
The root of happiness is not having to worry about jack shit.
And yes, having money has a great involvement in that.
That being said, it’s hard to be happy if you consistently have lingering thoughts in your head that hinder that happiness.
Is that why the world’s richest man is a drug addict?!
Money doesn’t make you happy. Problems make you unhappy. Money fixes problems. There is a critical mass of money where you’ve fixed all your problems and more simply wont make you happier.
It’s more not being impoverished rather than simply having money. If we fed, clothed and housed everyone baseline, then they would be happier.
The relationship between money and happiness is complex and multifaceted. While studies have shown that more money generally correlates with increased happiness, particularly up to a certain income level, this relationship doesn’t hold true indefinitely. Some research suggests a plateau effect, with happiness leveling off after a certain income point, such as $75,000 annually. However, other studies indicate that the positive impact of money on happiness can extend beyond that threshold, depending on individual circumstances and perception
Money is the root of evil.
If you need “things” to be happy you will never truly be happy.
I kinda get this. I’ve noticed when I go places like to restaurants or whatever and see an obviously wealthy family, they just seem so much more relaxed and content and easy going. Like they have no problems and no stress
Money buys everything but happiness….
nah. It only seems that way because of the way our society is designed. If society was structured differently then connection and belonging would be the root of happiness. Capitalism just made it so we don’t have freedom unless we have money so that’s why money is so valuable.
Yep, agree. Had this chat with my friend once.
“Money doesn’t make you happy”
“How do you get food to eat in today’s world?”
“Buy it from a shop”
“If you were starving would you be happy?”
“No.”
Money buys happiness in today’s world because it supplies our basics needs to survive. “But vack in the day when…” No. Today’s world isthee only relevant world. It’s the one you live in.
Money brings drama, family, friends and criminals. The more money you have, the more drama.
Money is the bridge to happiness
Money does not bring happiness itself, but it directly links u to things / experiences that very much enable you to be happy
I know people who’s lives would be so much better off if they could afford the necessities so yes I agree with you
Tell that to Kurt cobain
Money can’t buy happiness but I’d rather cry in a Ferrari than a Camry.
By your logic, oxygen is the root of happiness. Cos you can’t have any of those things without oxygen.
I am not sure how much of an unpopular opinion this is, but I agree. Money allows you and those who depend on you bandwidth to access resources, things that gives you piece of mind, which in turn gives you happiness, and I am not even talking about all the money in the world.
Having money just attracts a bunch of users and opportunist. You basically have to withhold your financial success to avoid attracting leeches. If people are only around you because of your money that’s not real it’s all an act. If you can be happy with a lot of money alone or be with people equally as successful than you, then sure
It can be both!
Money doesn’t buy happiness. It does make perusing happiness easier if that is how you choose to use it. That being said most rich people are some of the most miserable SOBs out there.
I beg to differ. Just watch the billionaires. They seem happy to you ? Naaah always more power and more money. Always.
We should go back to barter!
Having money isn’t everything, not having it is
Money can eliminate most problems. Cannot change terrible relatives and doesn’t buy true emotions – like love, friendship, etc – but not having problems associated with lack of money leaves more mental bandwidth to pursue other things.
So while money doesn’t buy happiness, sure makes it a heck of a lot easier to get to.
If Money is used Wisely then yes it can be a source of happiness, but if used not wisely it can be a soucre of trouble and sadness, that not having it would not have wrought.
IF so, then what promotes the quality of using money ‘wisely’ vs ‘not wisely’ is really the root of happiness!
Money makes you happy until you have too much or too little of it. Where your safe spot it seems to depend on how much you struggle. You need it
