Its been like this for about 25 or so years, even before, with maybe a brief reprieve in the late 2000s.

Despite the slow adoption, it’s believed that most in process telephone calls between like 1999 and 2005 at any given moment were modems calling the internet and hogging the line for 20+ minutes. It became a legitimate infrastructure problem.

I’m retired, and I have two kids. The vast majority of incoming calls I get are from Medicare scammers trying to get me to switch to a scammy Medicare Advantage Plan.

The irony is that when I realize a call is a scam I feel a sense of relief. At least it’s not one of my kids asking for money or relating the latest crisis in their life, or a medical provider reminding me that I’m overdue for an appointment.

Yep my 80 year old parents finally had to cancel the landline they’ve had since 1978. The phone would ring all damn day with nothing but telemarketing calls. I hope no one needs to call 911!

Alexander Graham Bell really risked it all so we could politely hang up on robots every day.

My preferred methods of communication are 1) online platform, 2) email, 3) in person, 4) text message, 5) fuck it, I’ll deal with it later, and eventually 6) phone call.

    I hate phone calls.

The only time my phone rings is when someone wants my money.
