Mortgage/Home Question

r/

Hello,

Location: Indiana

I am from a small town in Indiana, and have lived here all my life. I met the love of my life when I was 16, and was with her for 14 years. She received a very unfortunate and abrupt acute myeloid leukemia diagnosis on April 23rd, and died April 24th.

My world is obviously in shambles. I am struggling in every way that matters. We had built a house in November of ‘24, which was mostly supported by her income as a pharmacist. With her being gone, there’s a good possibility I end up having to foreclose or sell this house and I do not want to do that if I can help it.

What legal actions can I take to secure my home or what is my best course of action? Temporary assistance isn’t really going to cut it unfortunately and I know I’m asking for a miracle.

Thank you and God bless.

    I’m sorry for your loss.

Were you married? Did she have life insurance, did you both have mortgage protection insurance or survivorship benefits? Are you on the deed and mortgage of the house?

Depending on your situation, a local probate attorney may be in the best position to guide you on your options here.
