Mosh pits take place in the wrong place of the crowd

r/

I am not questioning the virtues or flaws of moshing as a concept (I have both enjoyed and hated moshing in the past) as much as their placement.

Mosh pits usually reside at the absolutely best spot for viewing and listening to the performer(s) and yet is wasted on people who barely hear or see anything. In the process of fighting for your life in a pit, you tend to miss quite a lot of detail from the music, and sometimes the only thing you hear is people’s shouting or the sound of their shoulder crashing your face.

Meanwhile, devoted fans who really want to see and hear every last detail of the perfromance are relegated to the back/to the sides where the view is shit and the acoustics are more than suboptimal.

With the above in mind, is there any reason why we can’t swap the two groups and have moshers do their thing in the back, while the people who are there to actively pay attention to the performance stand in the front where it is easiest to do so?

    No

The mosh pit is fueled by energy from the band and the best source of energy from the band is as close as possible

Also bands are fueled by mosh pits, to look down and see people going absolutely bonkers for your music makes you also go bonkers

Also the most devoted fans are also people in the mosh pit and not just Jimmy standing in the back with his pocket protector

You can enjoy the show from the back
