Most drums solos overstay their welcome

r/

I like the sound of drums but I feel like they work better as a supporting instrument rather than a solo. A good drummer can make a song a lot better and give it it’s core beat. But whenever a drummer gets a solo part in a song it always feels like “ok, that’s nice, you’re good at that, but can we move on with the song please”. Drums solos always feel like they are lacking something to make it a standalone song. Compared to instruments like say violin, piano, cello, saxophone, trumpet etc that can play a song all by themselves and be enough.

I’m talking here about the big drums sets like this. I haven’t listened to traditional drums enough to make an opinion on them.

But please prove me wrong and recommend me some drum solos that will change my mind.

“Most” is probably true, but there are strong exceptions. Antonio Sánchez on “Breakdealer” (Pat Metheny Unity Band album) comes to mind.
