Hey guys,
Applying to LEO positions this year and I wanted to see which of my skills at my current job are most transferable to LEO that I should highlight in interviews.
I am staffer for a Member of Congress in my home state office. In my opinion, the experience and skills I would highlight are currently:
My ability to interact with the public, especially when the person may be unhappy (deescalation, maintaining composure).
I handle a portfolio of constituent casework, so writing inquiries to federal agencies, picking out important information from stories/situations, and being able to condense a problem into a more simple report.
I handle event security and security in general, I put together entry/exit plans, set up the event space with Member security in mind, coordinate with security and law enforcement, and alert federal authorities of any threats we receive through reports. During events I remain alert for any security issues.
General administrative work like calls, emails, meetings, etc.
Im already in a “on-call” mindset meaning I already know that I can have last minute work outside of work hours, events, weekends, etc.
Would you recommend I highlight some of these over others, or only highlight 1-2 if the list seems too long? Thanks for the advice!

nothing really. its highly specialized field that cant be replicated elsewhere
In my opinion, your ability to talk to people is the biggest benefit.
Having said that, that’s not going to get you hired. It’s just going to help you when you’re actually doing the job.
Also, make sure you know how to shoot a handgun. Failing to qualify with a handgun is one of the biggest reasons people don’t pass the academy.
