Moved in 2 Days Ago, Already Towed — HOA Ambush With No Notice

Hey everyone,
I just moved into a new place two days ago and already ran into a huge issue with the HOA. This morning, one of my roommate’s cars was towed from the street in front of our house — apparently because of a new HOA policy that bans street parking on the third Monday of each month for street cleaning.

The frustrating part?

We had no idea this policy existed. Neither the property owner (we’re renters) nor the HOA told us anything about it.
There was no visible signage until today. We’ve been using the main entrance of the neighborhood for the past couple of days while moving in, and we never saw any sign. It turns out the only notice is a single sign at the front — but multiple neighbors said that sign was only put up this morning, right before the towing started.
We hadn’t left the neighborhood in over a day, so we wouldn’t have even had the chance to see it if it was posted today.
The tow cost us $500, which feels incredibly unfair considering we weren’t given a chance to comply.
It honestly feels like a trap — zero warning, no proper communication, and suddenly a huge financial hit. We’re looking into how to appeal this, either through the HOA or possibly contesting the tow. Has anyone had success with a situation like this? Can the HOA or tow company be held accountable for towing without adequate notice?

Would appreciate any advice or shared experiences. Thanks in advance.

Does your lease have a clause about HOA rules? And did you get a copy of them?

You’re a renter. The HOA doesn’t even have to talk to you.

    Complain to your landlord.

Take the HOA and your landlord to small claims court over the cost of the tow and costs. Let s judge decide if it was a legal tow.

HOA and tow company didn’t do anything wrong. Your landlord fucked up and didn’t relay the rules to you.
